Flew Shot is the title of my serial posts about whatever random things a g'won. From writing about blogging to promoting my podcasting career, curating music & art to writing about sociopolitical issues, I'll create one of these at least weekly, often more. I will also sometimes use specific tags and communities for these posts.

I recall a conversation which took place on @msp-waves some months ago. The topic of death was raised. We discussed memorializing one's Hive blog when any one of us passes away. Most major social media these days has that function built in. Whomever is next of kin has the legal right to take on that task. It's usually pretty simple, albeit emotionally troublesome for so many. It is not something that I imagined having to do anytime soon. Of course we're all going to die one day, and that is something Risso and I spoke about. He seemed quite comfortable with the idea. And again, doing something I didn't imagine I would be doing anytime soon, I am writing to inform you that I have now been tasked with memorializing my best friend's Hive blog.
It has been almost two weeks since his passing. Sadly, Risso fell victim to a random act of senseless violence. A young man decided to shoot him numerous times in the back as Risso walked away from a brief exchange of words after the man rudely cut Risso off at the drive-thru of a local coffee shop. Even as I type this it seems unreal. My family and I spent last Thursday and Friday at Risso's viewing and burial and still I wake up each day feeling like it was a bad dream or an even worse joke. Also, as I type this, I know how hard it will be for his family and friends to read so soon after his passing. However, if there is one thing I learned from Risso, it is that those of us who are still living owe it to our loved ones and ourselves to live life to its fullest each day despite what madness might ensue around you. Do your damnedest to keep it together and get through it. I know if it were he writing these words about me, he would know that I would want him to keep up that same incredible energy he had which allowed him to be the shining light which he was to all who knew him. And while I am not certain I could ever fill his shoes, I know that I owe it to him to run full steam ahead chasing mine and my family's dreams and being successful. It is what he wanted for us.
I will be working with @liz.writes, whom Risso was going to propose to in the coming days, to come up with the best write up about him for a final post on his blog. And we have agreed that it would be best to leave his HP intact since he has all of his favorite people on autovote. We could eventually utilize the Hive as a resource for some of the collective endeavors we all had in place with Risso as a partner. There is already plenty of talk about starting the nonprofit which he planned to do. Again, it is likely too soon for all of us to dive into a serious project considering the wounds are far too fresh. This is as devastating a life experience as I have ever encountered, perhaps to roughest one thus far for me.
I do intend to keep this blog going daily as I have before. Please bear with me as I work through some difficult processing and reorganize my thoughts and plans accordingly. Risso loved my writing and I believe I had a lot to do with influencing him as a content creator. He and I and another close friends had plans to start a new show on @msp-waves the hour following Post Up each week. I would like to revisit this very soon and see how we can really do his idea any justice.

I am so sorry to hear of a passing of a dear friend, and a violent death at that.

He will not be forgotten as he will be remembered in your hearts.

Thanks for the kind words. It is a difficult time. One thing he and I had in common was our love for content creation. This is one way I can think of to keep his spirit alive and should be a big help in processing things.
