One of the pending subjects of current science is to explain how and from where consciousness arises, humans and some sufficiently evolved mammals, such as primates or dolphins, are capable of recognizing their image in a mirror and being aware of their existence as unique individual beings.

These two scientists affirm that the brain constitutes an intricate neural network through which electrons move obeying the laws of quantum mechanics that govern such small particles, especially in structures called microtubules that are found inside neurons and that they transport substances to different parts of the cell.
Estos dos científicos afirman que en cerebro constituye una intrincada red neuronal por la que los electrones se mueven obedeciendo las leyes de la mecánica cuántica que gobiernan las partículas tan pequeñas, especialmente en unas estructuras llamadas microtúbulos que se encuentran en el interior de las neuronas y que transportan sustancias a distintas partes de la célula.
The main problem posed by this theory is that, as far as we know, quantum phenomena occurs at temperatures close to absolute 0 (-273 ºC) and our brain works at room temperature, so this type of phenomenon should not occur, the argument of these two researchers suggests that these microtubules could have a fractal structure, which would favor quantum phenomena.
El problema principal que plantea esta teoría es que, hasta donde sabemos, los fenómenos cuánticos se produce a temperaturas cercanas a 0 absoluto (-273 ºC) y nuestro cerebro funciona a temperatura ambiente por lo que este tipo de fenómenos no deberían producirse, el argumento de estos dos investigadores sugiere que estos microtúbulos podrían tener estructura fractal lo que favorecería los fenómenos cuánticos.

Fractals are mathematical structures that are infinitely repeated forming patterns generating a structure that has a finite area but an infinite perimeter, this type of strange structures are produced continuously in nature, the branches of trees, the structure of our blood vessels are examples of fractals.

What these two researchers propose is that the movement of electrons through these presumed fractal structures of microtubules can only occur at the quantum level, given the complexity of measuring these structures in our brain, the tests are carried out in a laboratory using a tunneling microscope to create quantum fractal structures and study them.

Interesante, y yo que pensaba que eso de los fractales sólo servía para hacer gráficos de ordenador y pintar dibujos chulos.
