Para contrarrestar estos efectos existen diversos proyectos dependiendo de los recursos de la zona afectada, en este caso se trata de un grupo de agricultores de Kenia y Tanzania que han cavado doscientos mil agujeros en el suelo de sus tierra para conseguir reverdecer trescientas mil hectáreas de tierra improductiva para su uso agrícola.

These holes are dug in the shape of a crescent, placed in the opposite direction to the slope of the land. When the rains arrive and fall on the dry lands, the water runs quickly down the slope, eroding the land and carrying away the earth when the holes are dug, the water, instead of being lost, is retained in them.

This allows the earth to gradually absorb the water that has been retained, thereby allowing the vegetation to grow again in and around the holes, the growth of trees and plants also reduces soil erosion and feed the water cycle in the area.

El hecho de tener el agua almacenada hace que los campesinos dependan en menor medida de la naturaleza, lo que consigue que puedan capear las sequías más fácilmente.
Por no hablar del beneficio global para todo el planeta si todas las zonas áridas de Africa pudiesen volver a ser verdes.
