How it works is as follows: the patient swallows the pill similar to a large capsule that is propelled through the digestive tract using micromotors and sensors, while a tiny camera transmits images of the inside of the body to the doctor, who directs the robot via a wireless joystick, after 6 to 24 hours, PillBot is expelled naturally in the stool.

Contrary to what usually happens with these innovative projects, PillBot has already successfully completed tests on animals and is about to begin clinical trials on humans. Endiatx has raised $7 million to advance its development as they hope that PillBot will transform gastrointestinal diagnosis and pave the way for other medical applications.
