The International System of Units is a system made up of seven basic units: meter, kilogram, second, kelvin, ampere, mole and candela, each with a characteristic definition that defines the corresponding fundamental physical quantities, for example the second is defined as the frequency of the hyperfine transition of the unperturbed ground state of the cesium 133 atom.

Various prefixes are applied to these units to express multiples and divisors of these standard units, such as mega, giga, tera, peta in the case of multiples or micro, nano, femto and ato for the smallest divisors, with these prefixes both very large and very small measurements can be achieved.

Even so, the amount of information generated by the different disciplines means that these prefixes remain small when we want to express, for example, the mass of the Milky Way, which is estimated to be 800,000 million times the mass of the Sun, which, in turn, it has an estimated mass of 1.989 × 10^30 kg all existing prefixes fall short of us.

That is why the General Conference on Weights and Measures, during its 27th meeting, defined new prefixes that will be used within the International System of Units to express exorbitant quantities, both large and small, these prefixes are "ronna", "ronto", "quetta " and "quecto" that will qualify the basic units.

The prefixes ronna (R) and quetta (Q) are used to define very large quantities, ronna applies to quantities whose first digit is followed by 27 zeros (10^27) and quetta to quantities whose first digit is followed by 30 zeros. (10^30), in the same way for very small quantities, ronto will be applied for quantities with 27 zeros after the decimal point (10^-27) and quecto for the case of 30 decimal zeros (10^-30).

Even so, to express the weight of the Milky Way, they are still small measurements, with these new measurements the Sun would weigh 198.9 ketagrams, so the galaxy that we mentioned at the beginning is estimated to have the weight of 800,000 million suns, the galaxy would weigh approximately 1.6*10^14 quetagrams.
