Meditation sur Salve Regina - Denis Bédard | Secrets of Organ Playing Contest Week 85

This is my entry for the Secrets of Organ Playing Contest week 85. I live streamed this recording of Denis Bédard’s Meditation sur Salve Regina. As today is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, I thought this would be a fitting tribute.

The tune is in the tenor region and I used the Chemnitz Sauer organ clarinet (Sonus Paradisi) as the solo. The accompaniment is a hypnotic quaver pattern on very smooth flutes on the great. The pedal sounds almost “timpani” like when they are played in a detached manner. This clever arrangement is short but the tune is immediately recognisable to the listener.

I hope you enjoy my rendition of this piece which is from the collection ‘Messe’ by Denis Bédard.
