[Review] The Night Of

in #series4 years ago

A lost genre that has been little used lately is the genre of police investigation and homicide, a genre that I personally have always liked because of the way in which some directors and scriptwriters manage to create suspenseful atmospheres where we really don't know how some of the events that gave rise to the development of a crime took place. However a couple of days ago reading some review here in TripleA looking for what to see I found a series that had very good looks so I pounced on it, and WOW it fascinated me, I saw it in a very short time, this is a mini-drama series called The Night Of

The Night Of is a series that focuses on the curious murder of a young woman after a night of desire and passion with a boy of Arab origin who just met, a shy young man with no apparent reason to attack the young girl, no doubt a crime that like happened to the police and the same boy accused of having commit it surprised everyone by the incredible brutality that was used to commit it. In short, we have a young woman who one day, while she was on the street, enters the taxi of a young man with whom, after some pleasant moments, she connects and invites to her house to spend a night of "party" that ends with her brutally murdered while she slept. The really strange thing in all this, are the situations that come after the crime, dozens of loopholes that do not let us know for sure if this young Pakistani committed the murder that the police insist on attributing to him.

Everything that comes after the crime happens very quickly, something that manages to transmit that atmosphere of intense suspense where no one knows what is happening, after all we quickly go from a night of lust to see a young man who after waking up gets the girl he just met and spent the best night of his life dead, which makes this young man run away to quickly be caught by the police. From the apprehension of this young man we will see how a hunt is carried out with two routes, one of the department of justice in its constant search for definitive evidence that blames the young man and another, lead by the peculiar lawyer of this young man in his ceaseless attempt to save the life of this poor young man.

Beyond the different scenes where we see the way in which everyone wants to solve this crime, what strikes us most is the way in which this young man changes completely while in jail, the young man basically breaks and goes to the dark side succumbing to a world of drugs and crime that protect him from the horrors of prison but at the same time bring him closer to losing that spark of humility he had before entering.

This is undoubtedly a crude, dramatic and intense series, a series that does not overlook the different vices that are contracted after entering prison, vices that are capable of breaking the will and character of the humblest and kindest of men with temptations that constantly bombard the sense and mind of a young man fearful and lacking some sort of courage, a young man who decides to take the easy way to survive to prison, something that lets us see the incredible transition to his worst being. The series fascinatingly depicts everything behind the process of investigating and condemning a crime, everything that a suspect must tolerate while his name is free of all guilt, and it is really intense to see how everything is transmitted through scenes built from the most primitive of terrors, here there are no half measures, the series shows us life in prison without half measures or censorship.

The series is super entertaining because in addition to telling a very entertaining story it also beautifully exposes life before and after prison through an accumulation of situations perfectly created to enhance the intensity of the plot. I liked everything in this series, but undoubtedly the most outstanding are the different nuances in each character, characters that differ greatly but manage to create excellent chemistry.
