Today's Local Coin Shop Find - 10/22/2021

in #silvergoldstackers2 years ago

At the Local Coin Shop, all the "junk" Silver carry the same price, no mater how worn the coin is. Through all the wear & tear, they are still 90% Silver. Today, these 90% Silver Quarters were $21.50 (USD) per $1 face, or about $5.38 each.
IMG_4574.jpg Notice the three stars on the coin, on the left. For some reason they were added, on the third year, of the coin. That would ID the starless one, as either a 1917 or the extremely rare 1916.
Starless.jpg Judging by the use, wear & tear, these Silver coins, indicates that they were in constant use. They may have been exchanged dozens of times, daily.

Old coins were recycled, turned back into new coins, but these relics, somehow evaded bankers, mints, smelters, etc... Who knows, this Silver may, someday, be recycled into a computer, cell phone, medical device, or another useful & important invention.

Thanks for looking, and stack 'em if you like 'em. Check out other interesting coins, on #silvergoldstackers.

It's kind of a shame some of these old coins have been melted...
Stacking Silver my friend!!!😀

Thanks again for looking, Silvertop - @silvertop. Yes, it is a shame, kinda. You should see some of the other interesting Silver items the LCS sends off to the smelter for recycling. Beautiful, hundred-year-old Sterling Silverware, slightly used, missing one spoon, minus one fork, ends up getting recycled.

I remember years ago when we had the big Silver spot price run up.....
The same thing @cve3, I was a teenager and didn't have much money. I would buy a Sterling fork or spoon, I still have that silverware!😇

A very well used coin. Must have passed between thousands of hands since it first came into circulation.

Thanks for looking and commenting, @kerrislravenhill. Yes, I'd say the coin did its job and served the people well.

Standing Liberties!!!
I can use more of those.
Stack on @cve3!

Thanks for looking, SILVER SAVER - @silversaver888. Yes, these beauties turn up, occasionally, but I usually, only, grab dated ones. But so many hands touched these, that I had to have them.

Haha... you have to be the last hand! They needed saving!!!

That is rough looking standing Liberty quarter. It probably weigh half of what it’s suppose to.

Thanks for looking, @silverd510. Yes, it is about as thin as they get. It did its job well.
