A coin for every occasion: 14th July 1858 - Birth of a suffragette.

Throughout the month of July, ill be looking back at historical moments from the past. From conflicts to coronations, sporting moments to royal memories, and famous firsts and lasts, with my love of all things shiny and precious, ill be trying to tie these events in with coins that have been created to commemorate these moments.

In 2009 to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the first UK 50p Fifty Pence Coin, the Royal Mint released a very special Limited Issue Suffragettes 50p Fifty Pence Silver Proof Coin struck in solid .925 Sterling Silver. This comes a full 6yrs after the original 2003 suffragette 50p was released.

In 2003 to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Womans Social and Political Union, the Royal Mint released a Limited Issue 50p Fifty Pence Proof Coin. With a mintage figure of 3,124,030, it sits towards the top of the scarcity index.

The proof version of the 2003, 50 Pence (50p) coin currently sells for around the £55 mark. While the 2009, silver proof (.925) versions, with a mintage of just 1168, retails for around £130. Both very important historical coins that would grace any collection. Given the choice id opt for the silcer verion simply because of its scarcity and it being partnof a special addition pack.
