The women's international soccer team filed a failed lawsuit against USA soccer for unequal pay. Biden has doubled down that the women's team was treated unfairly.

Here are some relevant facts:

  • USA soccer offered the women's team the same CBA as the men's team and the women's team rejected it.
  • The women's team made more money than the men's team both overall and per game.
  • The women's team had a gurenteed salary, health benefits, severance money, etc. all of which the men's team lacked. Namely, any player on the men's team could be cut at any time with no compensation at all while players on the women's team would recieve some money even if they didn't play.
  • If the women had taken the same CBA as the men, they would have made more money; but, if the men had taken the same CBA as the women, they would have made more money.
  • The women's team's demands in the lawsuit weren't just to get the same CBA as the men, which was offered to them and rejected. They were demanding the same bonus structure as the men's team while not giving up any of the extra perks that they already had which the men's team lacked.
  • This was never about equality.
