Tooting on Mastodon

in #socialmedia9 years ago

I've heard a couple of mentions of Mastodon recently, including this post by @katharsisdrill. It's a sort of Twitter clone that can be federated across many servers.

Mastodon

It sounds something like identi.ca, which was a place full of geeks a few years back, but has changed into something else now. I used it for a while having been a Twitter user. I'm still on Twitter, but don't use it much. There just isn't time to be active on lots of social sites. My time is mostly split between Steemit, G+ and Facebook these days.

I have created a Mastodon account just to try it out. I can't promise I'll be active there.

I'm Steve, the geeky guitarist.

Mine cryptocurrency in the cloud at Eobot, including Steem. You can earn as you chat using WowApp. If you use these links I get a small reward. You can recruit others to do the same.

LOL.
You got me with that heading.
Didn't know about that app, but here's a rather dark photo of me with Bill Kelliher of Mastodon (the band) back in 2014 with his white 1977 Gibson Les Paul Custom.

No, he wouldn't part with it.

The app is named after the band as far as I know. I've heard some of their music and liked it.

I just wanted to check out the app as it was suggested to me. I know some people would like Steemit to do microblogging too. I just wonder if I need that.

Please report back - I am not starting until people i trust tell me i should use it

It's not looking essential yet. Of course I may find interesting people there, but I have enough updates from other sources to keep me busy.

Yeah - so many sources we use daily, sometimes wondering how we can manage our normal jobs

I have loads of feeds from various places, but there's still so much I miss. It's impossible to follow all the tech news these days.

absolutely in agreement - aggregators needed
