We all have information in our minds about the Cold War, but did you know that Pepsi the soda company played an important role in dismantling the Soviet Union?

Como es bien sabido, la segunda guerra mundial empujó y desató la Guerra Fría entre Estados Unidos y la Unión Soviética, y no solo llenó de tensión a estas dos naciones sino también al resto del mundo, temiendo que llegara el momento en que estos países se enfrentaran de forma directa y bélica.
As is well known, the Second World War triggered and unleashed the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union, and not only filled these two nations with tension, but also the rest of the world, fearing that the time would come when these countries would face each other directly and in war.
Entonces, ¿cómo se involucró Pepsi en esto?. Pues en los años 50 se realiza un acuerdo de intercambio entre EEUU y URSS con el fin de aliviar las tensiones. Así, Estados Unidos logró mostrar dentro de Moscú, refrescos Pepsi, logrando que incluso el primer secretario soviético Nikita Khrushchev probase aquel refresco.
So how did Pepsi get involved in this? Well, there was an exchange agreement between the US and the USSR in the 1950s to ease tensions. Thus, the United States managed to showcase Pepsi soft drinks inside Moscow, getting even the first Soviet secretary Nikita Khrushchev to try that soft drink.
Estados Unidos desarrolló el plan de expandir refrescos Pepsi por todo la URSS, y con esto no solo lograba incorporar dentro del país comunista sus productos, sino que además permitía que dentro de Estados Unidos, Coca Cola no tuviese competencia con Pepsi.
The U.S. developed the plan to expand Pepsi soft drinks throughout the USSR, and by doing so not only did it succeed in incorporating its products within the communist country, but it also allowed Coca Cola to have no competition with Pepsi within the U.S.

La URSS se veía cada vez más afectada, y ya en sus últimos años, prácticamente derrotados y con grandes deudas con Pepsi, la URSS decide pagarle a Pepsi por sus refrescos con su flota marina. ¡Pepsi se convirtió en en propietario de una de las flotas de guerra más importantes del mundo!
The USSR was increasingly affected, and already in its last years, practically defeated and in great debt to Pepsi, the USSR decided to pay Pepsi for its soft drinks with its marine fleet. Pepsi became the owner of one of the most important war fleets in the world!
Claro que esto perjudicó a la URSS y más aún considerando que ya estaban bastante dañados. Así, la URSS llegó a su fin y Pepsi mantuvo su flota por un tiempo hasta que debido a los impuestos se tuvo que deshacer de ella poco a poco.
Of course, this was detrimental to the USSR and even more so considering that they were already quite damaged. Thus, the USSR came to an end and Pepsi kept its fleet for a while until due to taxes it had to get rid of it little by little.
