This week's challenge focuses on the hardshell Tortisian Fighter:

Tortisians are one of the newest civilized race to find their way into the Splinterlands from the other side of the world. They are naturally a seafaring people, and while they cannot breathe underwater, Tortisians can hold their breath for several minutes at a time. Their shells act as powerful floatation devices, never allowing one to be dragged under or to tire from swimming. In battle, the Tortisian Fighters make use of ancient martial arts forms handed down by their people. They carry spears, but seldom need to use them.

This battle proved to be a tightly fought battle.

The battle ruleset and details were:

For the battle, I used the following lineup:

CardWhy
image.pngMain tank and heavy hitter
image.pngSupport tank
image.pngReduces ranged ability of enemy monsters
image.pngAOE due to blast effects
image.pngHigh speed to provide additional magic damage and low mana
image.pngRanged monster with armor and decent level of high

My intention and assumption was for Tortisian fighter to provide backup tank support, but alas this proved to be a faulty assumption as it didn't last very long in the battle. Luckily, the tanky giant squid and the leased epic card (thanks to @costanza) provided the bulk of the damage and absorbing of damage dealt by the enemy monsters.

In low mana ruleset battles, I would use the Tortisian fighter as it provides armor, decent level of health and damage, but in higher mana battles I would look elsewhere. I prefer my support tanks to have a bit more health and armor.

I have tried to use two tanks before, or a weaker tank as backup, but haven't had a lot of success... sometimes it saves my team though! So its a gamble haha
