2 Tournaments for the Price of 1

in #splinterlands2 years ago
I have started playing some anytime tournaments, and they've been very fun! I enjoy these much more than the regular single-elimination tournaments where you have to play at a certain hour. It never feels good to schedule a time to play, maybe even rent some cards, and be out of it in the first couple of rounds. For me, these have been much more satisfying to play. However, this time, I am writing about 2 single elimination tournaments. They are not my favorite format but I still play some.

Tournament 1

This tournament is hosted by a great streamer who does many delegations. Make sure to follow him at

image.png

All these cards are also delegated to the top players, in addition to the regular prizes. These last until the end of the season. Another thing I should mention is that this tournament was set up in the Modern format, in addition to allowing Chaos Legion and Reward cards only. This means we can use any reward card that is legal in Modern and Chaos Legion cards.

I started the game missing Pelacor Conjurer several times. When I was able to kill it, the game was mine since I couldn't miss with most cards anymore.

Round 2:

Match 1:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_8e104c9ee3a314eafeedacc9e7a85a7e&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Very similar teams but they have Tide Binder instead of Uraeus. This resulted in their Axemaster surviving on 1 HP while my frontline was destroyed and that left my ranged unit in front, where it can't do anything.
Match 2:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_ad152fbbe69ccd9ac077f6a24d554e30&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Again, similar teams. The first key difference was my Magi of Chaos that they didn't have. This allowed me to kill Mycelic Slipspawn, on turn 2, before it attacked. My Mycelic Slipspawn got to attack and kill their Grund. This allowed me to deal more damage and kill their Regal Peryton on the next turn. It also placed their ranged unit in front. This meant I had much more damage so I easily won from here.
Match 3:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_f21e5abc90f6fb2ca004bb276dc28f1f&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Another game with very similar teams. Same exact monsters, just different positioning and my Sand Worm is at a lower level. The first big thing was my Grund winning the coin flip on turn 2. I also won the coin flip on Goblin Psychic but I don't think that was important. The one that won me the game was Grund.

Round 3:

Match 1:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_6f698bdab7a00c2eb351a0de20df71db&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Wave Brood won me the game. Putting it in the back and Nerissa next to it, was too much HP for their team.
Match 2:

image.png

They probably didn't submit their team on time.

image.png

Round 4:

Match 1:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_e2c35cb4deccb8a9e931107f05cce354&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

The speed advantage Time Mage gave me allowed me to quickly kill their team with my archers. Their Cursed Windeku was also wasted in the back against my team.
Match 2:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_24cc2c85d6f9b2f8b39226b68803d718&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Grund in the front, Hill Giant to take the Blast damage and a healer were super strong here.

Round 5:

Match 1:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_8a07c3621eaf1704824e96cb2ddada34&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Djinn Chwala was super good in here. I didn't have any Dragon Summoner so I couldn't use it.
Match 2:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_e796af8391bb189530d22b40f4b4e9f0&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Very similar teams. I don't know which team was better but I'm pretty sure there was some RNG involved.
Match 3:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_7ad703cb4805361f17f860cd12689fba&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

I was very lucky to get a dodge on a 1 speed difference from the Worm attack on my Grund. Without that, there's no way I win the game.

Semifinal Round:

Match 1:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_4d9bcd5dff78e6780bb481dab4e56d50&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

I went with a team to fully use the Reverse Speed and they opted for one to take advantage of Earthquake. Their team turned out much better than mine as my monsters quickly died.
Match 2:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_da3d5ac123cc637a9546c0e0ab72833b&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

I didn't rent any cards for this tournament, other than a level 3 Demented Shark in the middle of submitting a team but I should have also rented a level 2 Tide Binder. It's very cheap and it would have been very useful in several games. Here, I had Uraeus dealing damage to the back, alone, so it was wasted damage.

image.png

image.png

4th place was a very good result. I got 300 DEC and a Ruler of the Seas level 2 delegated. Congratulations to Spjin, who won it all and got a nice Gold Foil Kron for the rest of the season!

Tournament 2

This tournament is hosted by the first Splinterlands streamer, the great Clove71! You can watch her here:

No delegations here, but there are a lot of giveaways during the stream!

Qualifier Round:

I had a bye here!

image.png

Round 2:

image.png

They didn't show up.

image.png

Round 3:

Match 1:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_1aeda09028c0b061122d78d280579ebc&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

We both went with Obsidian and they had Kron. However, that left them with less firepower and I was able to deal enough damage to Kron to kill him from full health to 0 in a single turn!
Match 2:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_5e197f7eec2077d07be2f13128f8bbb7&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

This was a dangerous game because if Forgotten One got enough Retaliates, it would be pretty easy to lose. Thankfully, it didn't.

image.png

Round 4:

Match 1:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_d1db2ab2c12daa628764ef8732c4bd28&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Grum and Yodin quickly destroyed a magic team.
Match 2:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_6b4967c764c15b99b73c4374e3c38ef8&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Yodin vs Byzantine Kitty, probably the 2 best cards in the game. Getting a Retaliate against Tide Binder was fantastic. I was lucky that I didn't get many misses against the 11 speed Diemonshark. After that, the game was done.

image.png

Round 5:

Match 1:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_2624d5667fdd99b51447b3188b581a6b&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

My Antoid Platoon took all the attacks and died, but that left my ranged units to blast away at the enemy team. At the end of the first turn, their team was already much smaller. Without Time Mage for the speed advantage, my monsters also attacked first and it was done.
Match 2:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_49a5f5d4bfcc70c89cc8f76935d24382&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

4 games in a row where I "skillfully" spam Yodin and win. There was no way they could have won on 99 mana with a Tarsa against a Yodin, much less with underleveled cards.

image.png

Semifinal Round:

Match 1:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_ce860f77b2cccd4513ce26bab80eb1cb&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

I finally meet someone who can match my Yodin with their own Yodin. Their cards had higher levels and that was the deciding factor. I don't own or rent most of those untamed commons and uncommons.
Match 2:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_7f54abe97f72211d76f9f0aa521f9983&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

Lorna Shine vs Grandmaster Rathe. It's the old Life Summoner against the newest one. Which one is better? Lorna is probably a better card for most games. Here, Grandmaster was able to take the game but it was a high mana one, which makes the higher cost almost irrelevant. Most of my cards were able to ignore the armor on their taunt, which is very useful against 2 revives. My tank survived much longer than theirs and that's how I won the game.
Match 3:

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_67a0f8e1fd6469005782bf5d4b5b2e44&ref=olaf.gui

image.png

image.png

This is where Lorna shines (pun intended)! I went with Obsidian and their Magic game was still better than mine. There was really nothing I had to beat this team.

image.png

image.png

This time I got 3rd place, another great result. I had a lot of fun and won some DEC for my card rentals and purchases. I had rented a few cards, most importantly, a level 2 Yodin and a level 2 Magnor. Congratulations to Mondroid who won it all! I hope you enjoyed reading this.
