How to Save $$$ Buying Splinterlands Cards

I just placed my first purchase of a Splinterlands card and saved $20 or 8% off the listed price of $250. In this post I'll outline the steps I took to capture this savings.

Offline, I am often called an "extreme couponer," meaning I love finding great deals by stacking discounts on top of each other to end up paying the lowest possible price. When it comes to grocery shopping, I'm able to get some things for free by stacking a sale price, with a coupon, and other promotions.

I decided to start investing in @Splinterlands cards to take advantage of the new game dynamic in which players must "buy power" in order to get into the Silver leagues or above and earn DEC and larger rewards. There is also an extreme surge in card rental prices at the end of the season that can be lucrative for card owners as well.

I will be renting these cards purely to generate ongoing cashflow from players that need to increase their power level, but will also retain the SPS airdrop points as a bonus! For this reason, I am sticking to purchasing cards that are Gold Foil Legendary since they are the easiest for players to rent to quickly grow their power at the end of a season.

The first card I purchased is the Gold Foil Legendary Djinn Bilijka. This card is part of the new Chaos Legion Reward set and offers players a boost of 12,500 power. For those who may not know, the power of a card is equal to its DEC burn value.

The price listed for this card on the market was $250 at the time. This appears to have been good timing as the price has since risen to $336 $590.

However, I did not actually pay $250 for this card. I only paid $230. That's a savings of $20 or 8%. Here's how I did it.

First, load your Splinterlands account with some credits using PayPal.

Right now, my Chase Freedom credit card is offering me 5% cashback for all PayPal purchases through the end of the year.

This means buying $250 worth of Splinterlands credits through PayPal will earn me $12.50 in cashback (effectively a discount).

If you don't have a Chase Freedom Flex card yet, you can signup for one here (affiliate link) and get a $200 signup bonus plus get that 5% cashback on PayPal purchases through the end of 2021! Just make sure you sign up for the Freedom Flex that comes with the 5% cashback from rotating quarterly categories!

Second, purchase your card through the MonsterMarket.io interface. If you've been active on Splintertalk.io, you've certainly seen the @monster-curator comments that mention card purchases through MonsterMarket will get you a 60% rebate of the 5% fee charged to the buyer on all Splinterlands card purchases and rentals.

Utilizing MonsterMarket on this $250 purchase would save another 60% of the 5% fee [(250.05).60 = $7.50].

Combine the $12.50 in cashback from Chase/PayPal and the $7.50 cashback from MonsterMarket.io and you end up with a $20 discount on a $250 card purchase!

The Splinterlands devs have made it clear that in order to earn any significant rewards in this game, you'll need to invest in card purchases and continue to grind into higher leagues. Make sure you're being smart and saving money on those card purchases.

Feel free to drop a comment with any tips and tricks you use to save money on your card purchases at Splinterlands!

Disclaimer: Unfortunately, this strategy may not work for non-US players since the PayPal/Chase cashback could be limited in who would qualify for it. But, no matter where your reside, you should always take advantage of the 60% fee rebate you get from MonsterMarket.io when purchasing your Splinterlands cards!

Today's Featured Battle

Here's a fun battle I had today. I've been having fun with Earthquake and Poison games and being able to setup a team that outlasts my opponent. Usually, with Earthquake, I choose a summoner like Brighton Bloom that will give all my monsters the flight ability (therefore making them immune to Earthquake). However, this battle did not allow the Dragon splinter so I had to come up with another strategy.

I decided to lineup some weaker monsters and then a Gelatinous Cube to absorb those quick deaths as additional health. The only attack I will have is the range attack from Gargoya Devil that has been boosted by +1 from my summoner and the blast ability. My opponent has used a high health tank and a regenerating backup monster so I have my work cut out for me.

In the end, my Gargoya Devil plucked away at the enemy tank and his backup. The kicker here is that the Gargoya Devil is able to attack from the tank position. Without that front-line attack ability I would have quickly lost this battle.
