Fourth Untamed Legendary Summoner Revealed & Upcoming Maintenance

It seems like only yesterday that the last Untamed Legendary Summoner was revealed, but we're coming right up to another 100k packs selling out so it's time to reveal the next one!

The Water Splinter Summoner - Lir Deepswimmer - is the fourth of six total Untamed edition Legendary Summoner cards to be added into the game via airdrop. The character was designed by NealMcSpadden and will be the seventh Untamed card to be airdropped to early pack purchasers!

Even though the card is being revealed now, it won’t be “unlocked” and available in the game until after the remaining ~13,000 packs are sold. Lir will be the 17th Legendary card to be available in Untamed edition booster packs, so the chances of receiving the card in the airdrop (as well as in booster packs going forward, without the use of potions) will be approximately 0.235% or 1 in every 425 packs on average, with an average of 1 in 50 of them (or 2%) being Gold Foil.

Additionally, in response to player feedback, any account that has purchased at least 425 packs eligible for the airdrop will be GUARANTEED to receive at least one Lir Deepswimmer card.

Show Me the Stats!

Lir Deepswimmer costs 7 mana, as with all of the airdropped Untamed Legendary Summoners so far, and he helps protect his team with a +2 Armor boost for all friendly Monsters.

He also casts the "Blind" effect on all enemy Monsters at the start of the battle which reduces their chances of hitting with Melee and Ranged attacks, and he gives the Return Fire ability to all friendly Monsters, which allows them to deflect a portion of all Ranged attack damage back to their attacker!

Here are some notes about Lir's interactions with some other abilities and rulesets (for those of you who are into that sort of thing):

  • The Blind effect cast by Lir can be removed by the Cleanse ability, and does not stack.
  • Monsters cannot have two of the same ability, so Monsters that already have the Return Fire ability will not get an additional benefit from Lir's Return Fire ability.
  • Lir's abilities will not be in effect in the Silenced Summoners ruleset.
  • Lir's abilities and effects WILL apply in the Back to Basics ruleset, as this ruleset states that "Monsters lose all of their abilities", but not that they cannot have abilities applied during a battle by the Summoner.

Get In On the Airdrop!

At the time of writing there are just over 13,000 Untamed booster packs available for purchase that will be eligible for the Lir Deepswimmer airdrop. Of course, all Untamed booster packs purchased to date - either through the site or through the crowdfunding campaign - are also eligible, and after the airdrop the card will be available to be found in all packs opened going forward.

These packs will also be eligible for all 7 of the remaining new Untamed card airdrops that will happen every time another set of 100,000 packs are sold. The next 2 of those will be the additional Legendary Summoner cards from the remaining Splinters.

We also want to remind everyone that you can get a significant discount on the retail price of packs by purchasing DEC on the secondary markets! DEC currently trades on the Hive Engine, Steem Engine, and TronTrade markets.

Lir Deepswimmer - Lore

There was a time when Lir was just a middling summoner of the Anenon School of water magic, but that changed forever one day when his small ship was capsized in a sudden (some might say unnatural) storm. Lir might have had a common life, he might have married a young girl from the Archipelago and settled down with mere ambitions of summoning at the grand arena of Mount Mox. But it seems the forces of the seas had other plans for the young man.

As the great waves of reckoning grew in size, rocking the vessel and everything aboard from side to side, Lir tripped among ropes of the anchor line and became tangled. When the ship finally rolled over and succumbed to the waves, Lir, along with the heavy anchor, was dragged down to the dark depths.

In most situations, being dumped into the drink would not be a hindrance for a water school summoner, especially one as young and strong as Lir. But entangled with the anchor, Lir felt his strength leaving as his lungs burned for air. As his body failed, his will to escape blazed within, and a spark of pure crisis in his soul changed everything in a moment. Fueled by a desperate desire to survive, Lir's magic suddenly surged to new heights as he called on the creatures of the sea to aid him.

The Serpent of Eld was the first to hear the powerful call of the summoner, and he was luckily lounging in a nearby cave. The great Serpent, who can swim faster than any other creature in the sea, took off immediately to answer the call. The cry of Lir’s spirit was so strong that it also commanded the attention of a lone Coral Wraith in the yawning depths. Moments before Lir was overtaken by water, pressure and darkness, a powerful wave of magic from the Wraith below removed the anchor from his leg and Lir was free. Not a moment later, the mighty Serpent of Eld swooped by, tearing toward the water’s surface with all the speed he could muster and carrying the summoner on his back. From far below, the Coral Wraith continued to assist, creating a vacuum, a reverse whirlpool that increased the already breakneck speed of the Serpent as he careened toward the light of day. They say that the Serpent and Lir breached the water’s surface at such great speed and force that they flew miles into the air before they came splashing down.

Some say that genius is what happens when a strong mind meets serendipity, finding itself in the right place at the right time. For Lir, now Lir Deepswimmer, it was in that triumphant moment of crisis and salvation that his research truly began. The wildest creatures of the Untamed deep had listened to his call; this would change everything for Lir. In the years since the sinking, Lir’s hair has turned a deep, rich blue, which most presume to be a magical side effect of having swum so deep. Deepswimmer’s power, fame and genius will venture deeper still.

Upcoming Maintenance & Downtime

We are planning to release phase 1 of the collection power feature at around 1:00 PM eastern time (17:00 UTC) on Monday, August 3rd. This will require a downtime of approximately one hour in order to calculate the initial collection power values for all players.

Please note that phase 1 does not include any changes to how the game works, it only starts to keep track of collection power values and will allow us to ensure that that is working correctly before starting to utilize the collection power in future phases.

Stay tuned for more updates from the Splinterlands!

Really loving this card! I was hoping that the new Water summoner would kind of get away from the reliance on Magic stats and this is a really good way to start that!

Nice! Water really needed some summoner that can do stuff in no magic matches, where water was outclassed so far. Well not anymore :)

It seems like Lir is a strong counter to Zaku.

Blind + Return Fire feels like they might cancel each other out. If a unit never hits (due to blind) - how will it ever return fire? (Or is this a potential issue of return fire on its own, on EVERY monster) being too powerful? :D

The rangers will feel the heat of this card especially enemy monsters summoned by Yodin zaku. So the abilities of deepswimmer to friendly monster is okay and also this summoner might be an unrivaled card against the prince summoner of the earth deck.

Not exactly. More like you're blind but if you manage to land a hit, well, you get return fire. The obvious weakness here is magic

Blind applies to the enemy creatures. Return Fire applies to your creatures.

If you're reducing the rate at which enemies can hit you, return fire loses its effectiveness. Seems like a strange combination of abilities for a legendary summoner.

Feels like they hamstring themselves.

Return Fire attack is 50% of initial attack.

So if Blind worked there is no Return Fire, but also no damage is taken by your monster.

What is better?

  1. Being hit and losing 4 HP, then returning fire causing the opponent to lose 2 HP
    or
  2. Nothing happens (miss) because of Blind?

I don't mind Blind causing miss 100% of the time which means no Return Fire at all :D

Exactly! It's a real interesting combination that doesn't make things too OP. I love what Splinterlands came up with.

Return Fire doesn't damage opponents who do melee attacks. The blinf saves you from melee attacks as well 😄

I want them to hit meeeee!

This is why jacekw is better at the game than me :P

This is why you have a higher rank than me in the game :)

Do you know I was going to say the same thing, it's not quite as bad as playing silence AND reflect, but it does seem a little perverse!

Mind you, no harm in them missing you more, and ranged attacks are very popular as they traditionally have the least counters, until now i guess.

This could really mess with a Death line up, all those nice ranged attacks with low health.

Also it's not Yodin, what a shit addition to the game that was, just OverPowered to the point where it takes all the fun out.

definitely need to see more effective counters to blast from ranged, like how magic reflect will bounce back, return fire blast should return fire as well.

Yes I guess so, imagine that with snipe - getting 4 damage returned to back to you, some of those fire monsters have pretty low health too.

That's a dope card. So will the strike back still be in effect even when monsters lose all abilities? I wonder how that will work

"Lir's abilities and effects WILL apply in the Back to Basics ruleset, as this ruleset states that "Monsters lose all of their abilities", but not that they cannot have abilities applied during a battle by the Summoner."

He's cool, but if you REALLY wanted to counter ranged. He'd have Return Fire and Headwinds over Blind.

he has the return fire ability..

Yes. I'm saying he'd have RF and Headwinds over RF and Blind.

Nice not sure how powerful that is compared to splash for all guys but I can see him bouncing back a lot of damage in some fights so will be fun to play with.

:reply:
Lir is doing only defensive stuff for his team. Blind is apparently reducing the power of return fire.

Cheers!

Lir + Lord Arianthus. I see a strong combination .

:reply:
Indeed strong abilities added for Lord A. Only Oppress could help opponents.

Cheers!

I would get this card but we need more high mana ruleset battles. There are waaaay too many 20 mana or less rulesets, which is great for the bots (less possible combinations), but has made me regret getting some of the earlier legendary summoners. I skipped getting Chanseus completely.

I love Chanseus

I feel water power.

Great! Very nice Summoner.. another good reason to buy some packs.. Great season everyone! let's keep stacking cards.. take a look on my profile guys https://peakd.com/@roy000000 and my user Royero000 on Splinterlands, I got great cards in this season loot.. Let's make another great season.

i don't have any legendary summoner 😭

Good counter attack for Zaku.

Thanks for the updates! I really enjoy trontrade.io if anyone is looking for a recommendation. Low fees and as long as willing to go a little above average asking price, the liquidity is pretty good.

uwu watery water

😲What a surprise ... after a long day where the water kingdom has focused its attention and almost dependence on the magic attack, this summoner has made a 360-degree turn, get more involved in defense ... it sounds quite interesting, we will see that pass.
