I remember when there was no line, you had to watch the screen far more intently and the chains would get brought out onto the field all the friggin time. To be fair, the game clock was also just a bit of the screen where a camera was simply rebroadcasting the clock on the scoreboard... and it would shake when fans jumped up and down too much.
