Dunces and Ostriches with a tiny Spud on the side

in #spud4 years ago (edited)

A month ago I shared a little about how Steemit (as opposed to Steem) has impacted my life and, for those folk not on Steemit, included a dunce’s introduction. A number of people very kindly suggested that the post, in fact, suggested otherwise.

The events of this month, however, suggest belie that. No, I am not referring to Steemit Inc’s having been sold to the Tron Foundation, or to @justinunsteemit’s purchase of a whack of Steem. Nor am I weighing in on communities and the issue of cross-posting. On the contrary, I am in the throes of Operation Ostrich.

Why?

Well, there are two several reasons and I’ll deal with Steemit’s change of ownership first. I tend to be a glass half full type of girl and, despite other peoples’ better judgement, and advice, I generally believe that most things are good. Right now, the jury’s out. On top of that, having joined the platform in mid-2017, and then having taken an hiatus, Steem had plummeted when I returned. When I got back I discovered the Steemit community and began connecting with like-minded folk. However, unlike others, my investment, as I keep on saying, has been in the form of content curation and engagement. Both of which I view as sweat equity. Over the time I’ve had an account, I’ve never powered down. When I had a little SBD, I did use some of that to pay for services (as you see at the end of my all my posts); for the rest, I bought Steem - as I think I mentioned the first time I participated in #spud. So, technically, I stand to lose nothing, which is not so say that I would not like a return. Of course I would.

My content “lives” on the blockchain and blogging is something I've been doing for more years than Steemit's existed.

On the communities, tribes and cross posting, and as I’ve said in various Discord channels over the last while: I just don’t get them. Perhaps I’m a bit of a salmon (at risk of being swallowed by an ostrich), but I’m just not going there.

As if that’s not been enough distraction, I went on a mission of my own and in the last two months, along with tripping the light fantastic, started and finished a 160-hour course in Teaching English as a Foreign language. Yes, @abitcoinskeptic, I shall write about it in due course (ha!). I’ve had great encouragement and support from a number of folk – you know who you are – but must special mention of @cheese4head. He happily entertained the odd, yes very odd question. That distraction isn’t entirely over as the official certificate is still awaited and I’m intending to do a specialised course or exclusive online teaching.

A digression:
The plan is to work online from McGregor – with adults and not with school-going children. I will (as I did all my working life) continue to focus on the post school sector, so this means students at university and workers who want to learn and improve their English and writing. I’ll come back to this another day.

Dunce city

As you will gather, there’s been quite a bit going on, so distracted only just sums it up. Especially as this February was quite a significant one about which I wrote in my cheeky @yourtop3 entry.

Well, to really enter the competition (this is the new month’s one) you have to pay a fee. The instructions go like this:

Well, I ended up sending a whole lot more than I needed. I confess. Anyway, two of the members of the friendly Top 3 Team DM-d me at different times and the gist of the question from both of them was

We think you paid too much for your entry. Did you really mean to?

Really?

Oh, well, I thought, having thought I was really on top of things, it turns out that I hadn’t noticed that I’d been paid out in SBD and not in Steem.

The tiny spud on the side

The upshot, is that because I’ve not had the opportunity to “produce”, I’ve not generated much Steem in the intervening time. That said, the Steem is not lost to the blockchain, and today, I powered up what I had and have used the SBD that I had to buy steem. So, for my own stupidity, I let the Top 3 Team keep it all: it's the only competition in which I have really enjoyed participating. Ever. I don't care whether I win - I don't - but the topics often get me going. If they don't, well, I don't, well, you know, enter. Although they tell me they're disappointed, the team gets it and there's no real pressure, month after month to participate which is why I cannot believe that it's been going for nearly a year.

Consequently

This month, I make a minuscule contribution to @streetstyle’s #spudxii about which you can read more here.

Hopefully March will have less of the dunce to end with a larger #spudxii. However, Operation Ostrich continues as does my other off-Steemit distraction.

Until next time

I think we've all put on the dunce cap here and there. ;) Thank you for your unwavering support of the contest and poking that ostrich head up to join us when you can. You sure have been busy elsewhere, so we're always happy to leave you with some lighthearted fun when you have time for a breather and a distraction. Waiting for my one post last week to payout so I can see if I have a few rewards to power up myself....

I think we've all put on the dunce cap here and there

My current speciality! LOL

Happy #spud when it happens...

Let's see what the next few days hold.... :D

Technically you did send in the right amount and then added "as much as you like" afterwards but it was out of character and we wanted to make sure you sent the amount you wanted to send! We of course enjoy reading your tales and are happy to summon (or should that be salmon) the Ostrich out of hiding 😁

Keep on with the TEFL and I'm sure you're going to thrive with the opportunity!
