Distributing free cat food to Ukrainians.

Part of my journey is using my strengths to help others wherever and however possible. This war is a strong reminder that life is so fragile and every moment is an opportunity to do the best. Yes, I sometimes fail to make the most of every moment. But I have stopped blaming my own mental state for it, I am not the one who has brought myself in such a terrible shithole from what was a very solid beginning to a "dream life".

Early in the morning, there were loud thunders that filled the sky. I was at work that time and I told my colleague how closely that sound resembled to a fighter plane flying over head. It is eerily similar, except the building does not shiver when thunder strikes.

Yana and Julia, two early birds and now bestfriends, came down asking me if it was just thunder or "the other thing". I can't lie, there was a tiny part inside me praying that it wasn't the "other thing" even though I knew very well it was just thunder. The only people worried about the thunder noises and from Kharkiv and other eastern parts, understandably. That is where we had most of the aerial action.

After work I got back to the remainder of my responsibilities. Nowadays, I have diverted from most organizations and focus more on individual help. I spend less time volunteering for organizations and more time on finding people that are ready to help. I only started doing this because I do not have enough time to commit to the organizations, AND because those places are for people who can beg. If you have problems with asking for help and/or put up a show, you can forget about receiving any sort of help.

I have seen this firsthand.

I dig through the internet to find volunteers, donators, and free stuff that Ukrainians can use. Till now, I have found jobs, English language classes, "buddies", free clothes, old furniture, and books that I gave to the Ukrainians in and around my shelter. Today, the find was cat food. A very kind person was giving away cat food that his cat did not like. This I found on facebook.

Finding activities and things on local websites usually takes up 3-4 hours of my daily life. Commuting to said places and fixing everything up takes about an hour, usually. So it is safe to say almost 5 hours of my day, every day, is spent with this ONLY.

Cat food can get very expensive but is also very important. It is also the first time I came across such an offer. The pick up location was a bit far. On the bike it took me roughly 40 minutes to and back. I was mainly concerned with the rain, since I had already given my raincoat to a worker here. Nevertheless, I made the trip and thankfully got soaked just a tiny little bit.

It was so worth the long and wet trip.

The guy had left the cat food in a bright red bag on a bike outside his house. He left for vacation today and told me I could take it from the bike. In total there were 32 bags of 100 gram wet cat feed. That is a good amount an a very good find.

There are 6 cats in the shelter and these small packs of wet feed is a good short term relief for the owners. I tried to divide the amounts of packs as evenly as possible and with a few hours of making the trip all of them had received the cat feed.

In total 5 people were given the feed for 6 cats. I could not take pictures of everything. Then again, who has time for that when there is so much work to be done. I have noticed the most helpful people are those who spend more time getting things done instead of talking about it or showing it off. Prime example, all the Hivers that helped me. Hardly any of them have made elaborate posts about it, but all of them have done more than I could ask for.

You're a good person. You're putting other people in front of yourself. It's amazing how you always focus on helping others, instead of crying about your situation.

I am helping as much as I can - it helps me too. Also, I have my own ways of crying about my situation :D
