Continued ash from Volcan Turrialba, Costa Rica !

in #steem7 years ago (edited)

Good morning Steem!

We have 6 Active volcanos in Costa Rica and  over the course of the previous year, the Turrialba volcano has maintained constant activity and eruption.

Because of that we get huge amounts of ashes which extends miles and miles depending on the wind direction. Since it is constantly in eruption we have gotten used to it. However yesterday morning It did another large and continued eruption.

According to the latest report of the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (Ovsicori), by the wind direction, which at this time has direction towards the west which means towards my house, it’s not the biggest but it’s smells like sulfur!

The institution also indicated that eruptions of ash, gases and water vapor are maintained, and are accompanied by a constant tremor with a medium amplitude, reflecting the movement of fluids inside the volcano! This constant tremor is what causes the eruption of gases and ash.

Today I learned

The term volcanic ash is also often loosely used to refer to all explosive eruption products (correctly referred to as tephra), including particles larger than 2mm. Volcanic ash is formed during explosive volcanic eruptions when dissolved gases in magma expand and escape violently into the atmosphere.
