SteemDB.com Migration Completed

in #steemdb5 years ago

Some of you may have noticed over the weekend that steemdb.com was offline with a message about it migrating servers. The database ended up finally growing to the point where I couldn't squeeze any more space to fit it in, so I had to move the entire website/database to a different server.

Luckily I had one readily available, partially in thanks due to my work with @greymass. Not only will this move reduce my cost in running it (which at this point, are more than all my witness rewards), but will also increase the capacity available by nearly 4x, meaning steemdb.com should be fine for a few years to come in terms of growth.

PS: While I haven't been active blogging or participating in the greater Steem community - I hope all is going well with everyone!

Thank you - I'm happy that my prior work is still providing value :)

This is good news. Am glad steemdb is back online. Its a really super-useful steem tool for me... Good job getting it back online in record time.

thanks, when multi chain wallet?

It's still something we talk about whenever we're dreaming up future features for Anchor. We are still neck deep in the 1.0 release though, with the goal of bringing feature parity as well as a dApp integration layer (sort of like what Vessel uses) but more advanced. Any non-EOSIO chain integration would get pushed out into a 1.X release, after we're happy with the core integrations.

On the business end: the hard part about prioritization with @greymass in relation to Steem is the lack of incentives. It's really not worth it for an organization like Greymass to act as a witness on Steem right now, the pay is just too low compared to the other EOSIO based chains we can participate in. That means there's no incentives that exist currently for us to use in order to devote resources this way. That however may change with HF21/SPS, as we'd potentially be able to be incentivized to add Steem features from a new source of rewards.

After HF21 - I think potentially one of the most important things Steem could do is to move from an individual witness model to one in which organizations are elected. The Block Producers within the EOSIO space are such an incredible driving force behind their ecosystem, with efforts that just dwarf the individual efforts we have seen over the years with Steem (no offense to current/past witnesses, I was one of em lol). I think if Steem had 21 entire organizations, moderately funded, Steem would benefit greatly from it.

Yes, I agree. So, how do we get that done? How do we attract them?

It is somewhat difficult with the current witnesses tasked with making decisions that will directly impact their pay... a major conflict of interest and something that causes very little change.

Invest in a lot of Steem using money received from EOS with @greymass and build the blockchain up taking it to the top 10. This is incentive!

👍

Isn't this just a function of price though?

Largely yeah, it's a factor of the price and overall market cap. In small part though it could be a piece of inflation strategy and culture.

After SMTs of course!

Hey, are you planning to add tribes to https://steemdb.com/apps ? If so, please add @reggaesteem (JAHM Token). Thanks!

@proxy.token has just voted on @jesta for witness. Thank you. - Jan.3rd.2020 -

Hey @jesta, I notice steemdb.com is hive-db.com now. So is there a way to explore Steem post version history? Isn't that even more interesting when censorship arises? Why not have a tool for both blockchains? Funding?

Right now, HF22, with some running 22.1, steemdb stopped showing the times of postage. firealien, firealiean, kdtkaren, if you want a chance to impeach the pirate out of the top 20, either use coinstant as a voting proxy, or just vote jesta for a witness.
