Crypto space needs to grow up

We're a few days post the BIG Tron and Steemit announcement and yet still, we're not quite sure on the exact detail of the deal itself...

No sooner than an announcement comes out that sends jitters across the steem community, another statement follows that placates some folk. But later a further tweet or YT video etc causes further panic.

Why can't the world of crypto grow up?

If it wants to be taken seriously as a global asset class, then the movers and shakers behind crypto really need to level up and act like responsible and trust-worthy business leaders.

I know we live in a world right now where even our politicians are quite laughable but deals like the tron / steemit deal involve real cash and people's investments.

The level of communication from this deal has been atrocious.

Don't get me started on that AMA... Can you imagine the executives behind a listed company being that disorganised and immature when reporting to the City..?! They would be laughed out of any boardroom.

It was embarrassing.

"We're both 29"

yeah, no shit sherlock! More like 9.

We still have no official statement from steemit Inc as far as I can see. This is simply unacceptable.

Oh yeah, but this is crypto and its all so new that we operate by different rules

There is only so long this line can wash.

You can't string this line if you want to see serious institutional money invested into this space.

Imagine if you had tried to encourage real businesses onto the steem blockchain (as was needed as the next stage in its evolution) and now you have to explain this shit-show to them....

"Er, I've absolutely zero idea what's going on with this chain and, more importantly, your investment in it. Soz."

I know it's still a new space, but there comes a time when we have to start demanding more from it and the people behind it.

C'mon Justin, work out exactly what you think you've bought and steemit confirm what you think you've sold. And maybe get it crystal clear between yourselves before touching twitter or heck, posting on steemit.

Rant over. No more from me.

Sort:

Lol we 29 and we’re fucking around with blockchain development like it’s a hot wheels racing set! I don’t doubt they’re both smart guys and this is a young mans game they’ll take risks an fuck up so when the space is mature so will they, yes it affects a lot of people but that’s the same for any company

Blockchain will mature I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that it’s so widely applicable no one has nailed down a solid use case thay has taken off everyone is building shit and throwing it at the wall till one sticks

I guess Bitcoin is that one so far but keep throwing eventually 2,3 and 4 will stick and people will get it without getting it

Say you speak to a normie about cloud storage he doesn’t understand how it works but knows enough to use it, same with a credit card or a email over time the why falls away and what it can do is the only important thing

Yeah I agree that it's still a young game and there's a ton to suss out here, I meant more about their slapdash approach to the AMA (partic Ned). It was laughable - maybe that's what I'll just do...

Errr...

Imagine if you had tried to encourage real businesses onto the steem blockchain

After the unilateral lynchforking of dlive? The "you stole our money - no word on how much you actually spent, no word on how much you distribute, no word on actual mainstream media links you managed to obtain, no word on how many live streams were merely static uploads made to get an upvote" show?

Good luck with that.

Especially, since the still bitter sentiments were amplified, once again, in many initial comments about the upcoming AMA.

Heck, check the terms for the Steemit Inc delegation program: even if your biz fails, or is no match for the community, you commit you will continue using the STEEM blockchain for one more year after delegation is ended. Alright... see ya in court, Steemit Inc.

You seriously want to try to convince a serious business or dev team to consider building on STEEM?

You seriously want to try to convince a serious business or dev team to consider building on STEEM?

Enough said. It's a real shame

Indeed, it is. And while Steem has a very protective hardcore crew, there is a lot of entitlement too.

But that's cryptosphere-wide. The unregulated cryptoscene has brought out many hungry wolves and it definitely can be a deterrent for businesses. Of course, humanity has shown that it's a bunch of hungry wolves. In more than 2 decades among online startups I've seen many horrible "investors" and term sheets which even weren't worthy of the shredder but, sadly enough, the cryptoscene is even not at that level of maturity yet.

It seems for now only ROI ASAP matters in this world. That's not how the real world works. Nope.

Crypto space needs to grow up

Just like the people, who use them.

Why can't the world of crypto grow up?

Mainly because of the selfish and greedy attitude of the majority of the users.

Imagine if you had tried to encourage real businesses onto the steem blockchain (as was needed as the next stage in its evolution) and now you have to explain this shit-show to them....

Do not worry much about the Steemit-Tron business. Steemit is not the Steem blockchain. Steemit is just/only a dApp on the Steem blockchain.

All fair points. Thanks for your comment
