I Thought the Gull a Drone

All viewing of the world is composite

Bones of ancient baleen whales, eukaryotes and quartz – all

A matrix forming the cliff

The pacific gull soars the updraft

At first I think it is a drone

Mechanized systems mimic avian expertise

Robotics, virtual simulations, cybernetics

The animal becomes the machine

I have forgotten to see simply 'bird'

Transmuted, it is a feathered data complexity

Endangered, it once was ‘troo-ga-dil’

Captured in paint by an ornithologist on the First Fleet

And then the shame comes – nothing is pure anymore

Everything is layers of technology

The map is not the dreamed place but the layers of restaurants, cafes, bars

‘Find a chemist near me’

600 million unbiased traveller reviews

Share your location with others

The rain fell hard last night

Cliffs are due for a landslide, I ponder

Becoming part of two matrices -

The first, bones under ochre and clay nuzzled

Beside the jawbone of a plesiosaur, torn aluminium cans, fishing wire

A corroded vintage motherboard, plastic fish

The second is the augmented layer on reality

News feed: Girl missing on Victorian coast.

Beautiful invokation, River!

Thanks so much! It's always a bit tough publishing poetry.

Indeed. It's a more intimate part of the author than a normal prose piece.

And ugh - yet no one reads it - i feel like not posting anything else in protest until I get at least ten comments lol. there's something like rip your heart out when you write poetry.

Some do read...it's the meaningful comment sometimes that is difficult.

True that! And thanks for yours my lovely, appreciate it x

Love your writing @riverflows. It's strong and takes you to the edge.

Think there's some synergy happening: I've been I've been going to the lake at dawn, gathering duck feathers to make my next 'product' for the Homesteaders Coop ~ And listening ~ Just listening to the different bird calls and it's put me in touch with the magic of birds once again.

And then the shame comes

Watching the greenkeepers drive over the pristine greens spraying ~ I don't know what. I've been told it's not so 'highly' toxic. But whatever it is, it keeps the grass immaculate and weed free.

I photographed hundreds of dragonflies at this lake several years ago ~ Only the occasional one hangs about now. Sad. ♥︎♥︎⚖️♥︎♥︎

Your compliment means alot, especially from someone who writes as well as you!!

Have you ever watched the series 'The Detectorists'? Its so good - set in England, very gentle and funny. The lead character has to get a job spraying weeds, but when no one is looking he just fills his sprayer with water and sprays away without chemicals. It's such a sweet scene - a blink and you miss it moment, but so sweet.

wow that struggle between technology and the natural world you really captured that here, we have been made into fearful and paranoid beings taking innocent birds of flight as surveillance, it really is so hard to get away from it all at times. Much love to you and your beautiful creations xxx

Wonderful. So true, Technology has taken up so much on us that we can hardly see the nature and nature's creation around us.

Thankyou so much. I'm glad you got what I was trying to say.

Lesio what???
There is beauty in this poem that i can't name...
Technology is the future River...its' beauty lies on how we all met. Although we can't turn back time, we still live like the old ways or at least going back to it. Partly.

Pretty strong writing there and with so much going on behind those words. Thank you for sharing this with us, it feels very personal.

oh wow! This is such powerful, vivid writing - you write how I feel.

Really? That's pretty cool. The power of the written word to express innermost feelings blows me away xx

Everything you write blows me away. I always read you deeper pieces over again just to absorb it even more.
