Let's hang out and make cordial. With any fruit! by Celinka Serre
Cordial Making is a game of patience. It requires knowing how to prepare each specific fruit to optimise its flavour fully getting into the alcohol, knowing how to strain it, knowing which alcohol to use, which sweetener to use, as well as how long to to wait before you can drink it.
I have a made a video explaining the full procedure, which includes a few trade secrets and tricks to making tasty cordial using any fruit.
Here's a breakdown of what you'll find in this video:
How to prepare specific berries (raspberries and blackberries vs cranberries vs strawberries vs cherries).
How to prepare apples and pears, peaches and mango.
How to prepare citrus fruit, such as grapefruit (that one was a real hit).
Alcohol selection, meaning Rum vs Vodka, and what type of rum might be best for each type of fruit.
A quick note about bottles and sterelisation (very brief), with certain tools to use for each of the 3 steps of the procedure.
The length of time between shaking (in terms of a few days and for how many months do you shake every few days) as well as how long you leave the sweetener in before it can be drunk.
What sweeteners to use for which types of fruit and alcohol that were used (maple syrup vs liquid cane sugar vs regular sugar).
A few little extra tricks that I picked up along the way, plus my demonstration of each part.
In the video, I show step 1 with cherries, step 2 with grapefruit cordial and step 3, showing off cranberry cordial (we we've almost all drunk) and apple cordial.
