” Blackbirds tend to like shiny objects” ~ The Bloody Raven

This will be my first post in the SteemLeo Interface, encouraged by my fellow Stacker and Tag Master @silverd510 and promoted earlier by @leo.voter as the subject of gold and silver coinage do fall into the realm of Investment subjects.

Well it started out as one coin post from @eveningart sharing her lovely find at a local shop. The Maria Teresia Thaler is one of those “Must Get” coins as they represent a significant coin in economic history just as much as the Mexican 8 Reals or the English Crown and their influence evidenced in other currencies of the world.

And it looks GREAT in my Pirate Coin Booty stack too.

At the time I was studying the coinage of the Holy Roman Empire and writing a fictional arc of my alter ego’s origins before she became the Bloody Raven. And that still remains unfinished as Claudia begins to fall for Lukkas the noble Knight that is determined to accompany her in delivering a valuable manuscript to the Bishop of Khazaria who, was also co-conspirator figure in the murder of her family for political gain. Will it be a set up to an Assassination? Will she fulfill her vow of revenge and forsake the love and intimacy she craved?...!

I should just keep this article brief without getting further into the story arc.

To the Special Silver Coin!

1780X Maria Theresia Thaler

Anyway, despite the Vienna Mint still pounding out these great replica silver coins, 289 Million as of 2000, and EBay listing hundreds of these, I was more than happy to get this wonderful piece from her this winter for a few of reasons.

First it was that the card came intact with it and a means to pin down the actual year this particular Restrike was minted. Most coins available in the secondary market don’t have the accompanying card. And the important STATS for my Stacker friends:

0.833 Silver, 28g
41mm Diameter, 2.5mm thick
Reference KM# T1
1780X the X denote minting after 1780 as a Restrike

1780X Austria Hungarian Gulden: Obverse
1
The Empress Maria Theresia Habsburg’s bust,
Now, I can understand how her ‘fairness’ was the reason why this coin was very popular.

Second is that it comes from a sister Steemian in our community and that gives this coin a bit of a pedigree and a special trust.

Third, the fact that she remembered me having this very coin on my “Must have” list though it was in the middle of the pack of all the coins I planned to acquire in the future and then going a bit out of the way for me.

1780X Austria Hungarian Gulden: Reverse

Imperial double-headed eagle with the arms of Austria
Hmmm, maybe I should have toned this for better photographic Contrast.

The Vienna Mint still sells these currently at 21.95 Euros plus 20% VAT so that’s $38.62 CAD plus postage if I wanted the 2019 version and it would likely $50 CAD with postage.

Why is this package heavier than it should be?

@eveningart took it upon herself to add a few “Extras” to sweeten the deal largely for me putting up with the extra postage expenses and fees that normally go with the Territory even for something relatively inexpensive, a consistent trait of many of our community Steemians.

Left: 1947 -1972 25 New Pence - Elizabeth II Silver Wedding Anniversary
1
Right: 1953 5 Shillings - Elizabeth II Coronation

Left: 1947 Two Shillings – George VI With IND:IMP
1
Right: 1949 Half Crown - George VI Type 3 No IND:IMP

And so this Pre-Decimal Pound Sterling system went like this;

4 Farthings = 1 Penny
12 Pence = 1 Shilling
5 Shillings = 1 Crown
20 Shillings = 1 Pound (Sovereign)
21 Shillings = 1 Guinea

I remembered this from a recent article from @silversaver888, I won’t get into how ‘Quid’ or ‘Bob’ expressions came about.

Left: 1948 One Shilling – George VI With IND:IMP
1
Right: 1967 three Pence – Elizabeth II 1st Portrait
Bottom: 1948 Six Pence – George VI With IND:IMP

As the Edwardians and Victorians say, "Topping, simply topping!"

Thank you so much my Stacking friend and sister @eveningart, the Thaler looks as if it were struck yesterday (Est. 1980), and for the impeccably delightful Extras!

We hope to see you back posting or commenting soon with the rest of us stubborn Silver Stackers of #steemsilvergold in sharing our legitimately gotten booties.

The hashtag #worldcoinwednesday is another product along with #fiestatuesdays and #silverpornsaturday from the machinations of @silverd510’s plans to take over the social media blockchain world! Sort of.

Awesome package of coins from another lovely stacking sis @eveningart! She is so thoughtful to remember what you have un your "must-have" list! Thanks for sharing those wonderful coins!!!!
I wonder why my articles do no show in steemleo feed? I wonder if anyone in our community can help me figure that out!
Have a wonderful day, sis @kerrislravenhill! Take care 🥰🌺🤙 and a million Hugs and Kisses 🤗💕💋!!!!

Thanks Sis, and this Pre-decimal system sort of has an odd feel to handle since we're so used to existing system. I get it 5 Shillings make a Crown but looking over to the 1947-1972 25 New Pence we have to switch mental gears back. Nice Commemorative and historical pieces, I noted even that the minor coins are from the time that India was in the process of acquiring their independence. Hence the change over of the IND:IMP legend from 1948 to 1949.
I'm not sure why your articles don't appear on Steemleo, You may just have to post directly on https://www.steemleo.com/ like I did.
🌸 with 🌹 lotsa 💖 love!

Wow, these are some incredible pieces!

We love having more of the ssg community over here on https://Steemleo.com! Thanks for joining the squad. Hope to see more awesome pieces being showcased in your upcoming posts 🦁

I don't post often but I put quite a bit of work into them with what time I could spare in my busy life.
This coming weekend I'll have Rare and Storied coin to showcase for #piratesunday
I love gold and silver with a story!
And thanks for the big upvote @leo.voter

That is a very awesome package of coins. Wow, im totally jealous.

Why thank you @silverd510, Had to do one for #worldcoinwednesday since I started this already a week ago.
Just wait for #piratesunday for this next Epic seafaring coin reveal,
and I believe a testament to one of the most distinguished and successful Naval officers in history.

I like that 3 pence piece.. mostly because of its odd shape

That 1967 3 pence coin is unusually thick too, bigger than the old 6 pence.
I got a pdf file of the 2017 Krause Catalog of World coins and after a while you get the idea that many coins minted are not limited to round. You may just find a copy of the Catalog in your local library.
Thanks for Commenting @davedickeyall

Nice coinage!
I have several British large copper pennies from the 1800s and early 1900s, but no British silver coins.

My apologies @amberyooper I should have been more explicit.
The minor coins here are Copper Nickel, and very much similar to the 0.500 silver ones that just preceded these as the UK was changing over from using silver in most business strike coins. They are still fine examples of everyday business strikes.
I do have a fistful of British Silver minor coins that were handed down from my great Grandfather from after WW2 and have added a pair of Victorian silver crowns and a George VI silver shilling since.
I do have a few Seated Britannia coppers that were well circulated, and wondered whose hands had these come upon? If coins could talk! Love the feel of large old smooth pennies, and a personal favorite is the Half penny with the sailing ship of Sir Francis Drake's Golden Hind.
Thanks for Commenting!
