So we all left the Discord Channel on Sunday figuring SOMEONE out there would post about the amazing auction that we saw play out live that afternoon in SteemSilverGold community chat. But then no one did, and I was struggling to come up with a post topic for today after failing to post at all yesterday, so I figured I could rummage back through the chat and pull something together.
The image above is the final moments of the auction. After the "OVER" call was made by @raybrockman a late bid of $465 was attempted, but it was too late. @thedamus made a late bid of "one meelllion dollars" which I felt should have counted, but I guess I was alone in that sentiment. So how did it all begin on an otherwise lazy Sunday afternoon?

Pardon my screen grabs, they are not works of art, but you can get the drift. At 10:41am Sunday morning (Central Time) @raybrockman posts a picture of 2017 STEEM Round #4 with the subtitle "Number 4 is about to go on the secondary market".
Cut to a few hours later as people questioned Ray's intent and bluntly his sanity, and he follow up with:
@everyone anyone wanna put up a dollar amount for steem round number 4, before I put it to raffle, this would be the 2017 and 2018 steem round, would also guarantee you any futre number 4 as well.
So it isn't just the 2017 round he is offering, it is a matched set of 2017 and 2018 Steem Silver Rounds. @thedamus gets things started with a $100 bid. It quickly goes to $175 from @collectcryptodotcom, at which point @thedamus (who holds round #5) decided to drop out. But things were just getting started.

@randomness jumps in at $225, at which point Ray sweetens the deal. That's the @pit-bullion 2oz Steem Poured bar #4. We're now up to 4oz of silver, and a $225 bid.
By shortly after 4:00 the bidding was sitting at $300, and at 4:37 Ray declared there was to be one more hour before he closed the bidding and declared a winner. You can see at the top what happened at the end. $455 from @collectcryptodotcom comes in as the final bid before the auction closed, and we have a theoretical value of the low number rounds in the Steem Silver series.
Let's get a close look at those winnings

Final price ends up being over $100 per ounce, which is Juuuuussst a bit over spot. But it also comes with the right to purchase #4 of every Steem Silver Round moving forward. Each year the rounds are issued. A portion of the premium paid would be assumed to be the rights to that round number each year.
If you would like to read back through the whole process of the auction, follow each bid as it was placed, and all the garbage (mostly from me) thrown in between (mostly about buying $po.et) just scroll back through the SteemSilverGold Discord Channel till you get to about 10:21am Sunday, July 8th, and you can read it all as it happened.
So there you go. The Auction you probably never knew happened. These are the sort of things you get the fun of experiencing as a member of SteemSilverGold. There's always something new to discover with this group of wackadoos.
You just got splashed by @rewards-pool. For more information on delegating to the @rewards-pool click the following link.

@rewards-pool where a small delegation can get you a big splash.
Definitely worth it. I notice you negated to include my bid of $2.63 and a packet of bubble gum.... I really thought I was in with a chance 😂😂
I really considered throwing that in... but then I would have had to include all the discussion about whether or not it was American Bubble gum, and the whole post would have been sidetracked.
Honestly, I think @collectcryptodotcom was buying them just so they could send them your way to make up for the lost rounds. ;-) But that's an unconfirmed theory.
I still think Ray missed out on my bid of a lifetime. I would have "upped" it to 2 packs if he had pushed me. 😉
Woulda had to have been some Hubba Bubba, none of that cheap ass Wrigley Spearmint gum or Double Mint.

I believe I should have extended it another hour, might have seen $600.00. It was diffently a wild day but there are inly 3 numbers better than 4😁
Good times!!!
Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold
It was crazy to watch the whole thing go down, but it was a lot of fun. This is just another reason to get in on the discord action. Haha!
I wish I had a time machine. I would come back in time and I would really participate in the auction. But I don't have it...:=(
It was getting pretty obvious that he who spoke last would win. I just didn't time it right...oh well...maybe Ray will one day part with the #3 set! Lol
Sad you didn't mention my $420 bid in honor of @thedamus! :-)
I couldn't believe this epicness as I watched it unfold.
I watched till it hit 300 buck's and then tuned out before I did something I might regret!
It was a cool thing to witness. I thought about jumping in with a bid of around $100, but we quickly got past that. It was a wild ride!
Great coverage on the auction! It's great to see the potential here.
