I'd been chanting and praying all morning long. I was pretty high actually. Feeling full of energy and life and a little playful.
I didn't want to break the magic but I had to make an official call to the property appraiser's office.
A courteous young woman was on the other end. But I couldn't just do the usual expected pleasantries. Much too much going on inside me. My voice rolled like thunder and I couldn't help from laughing or acting like I was angry about this or that. I wasn't angry but it must have sounded like that. I could sense she didn't have much of a sense of humor.
She told me their address as North Main Street. On the notice they sent me it said South Main Street. I pointed it out and she somehow took it as a personal attack. She was adamant.
I jokingly said, "Don't worry I'm not making a report or anything about this." At that she flipped out over the edge.

She began recounting word by word our conversation to protect herself from the feared complaint I was going to file? Complaint about what? I was just joking in the course of conversation.
I realized she was in complete panic mode over nothing. I told her, "Don't worry. I'm not filing any report. I have been praying all morning and to be honest with you I don't even know who's talking anymore. God bless you."
Silence on the other end.
To have to live under that kind of fear must be just awful. That she could lose her job, her livelihood if someone complained about her. Just awful. How could she just be herself? All day long she has to cater to all sorts of weird miserable people so they will not complain. Poor lady.
I have to go in to their office today. It will be interesting to meet her face to face.
