Once upon a time there was a kingdom whose conquests were not far from the recondite waters of the Rahib River, its inhabitants lived happily under the yoke of King Kanduz, a tall man of good looks who had succeeded his father, the great knight Kandace as King.
King Kanduz was a lover of women who were foreigners and who passed the boundaries of the Rahib River, so he constantly went out in search of more virgins to betroth them, such conquests were not always peaceful, the young and very stubborn monarch shed the blood of the innocent who dared to object to his desires.
Once while strolling along the banks of the river, a snow-white man came out to meet him; beside him a beautiful girl was herding what appeared to be a flock of immaculate-looking sheep. King Kanduz surrendered to the beauty of that young maiden, but his brother, seeing that a man was stalking his girl, decided to take matters into his own hands.
Había una vez un reino cuyas conquistas no estaban muy alejadas de las recónditas aguas del río Rahib, sus habitantes vivían felices bajo el yugo del Rey Kanduz, hombre alto de buen parecer que había sucedido a su padre, el gran caballero Kandace como Rey.
El Rey Kanduz era amante de las mujeres que eran extranjeras y que pasaban los límites del río Rahib, por lo que constantemente salía en busca de más vírgenes para desposarlas, dichas conquistas no siempre eran pacíficas, el joven y muy testarudo monarca derramaba la sangre de los inocentes que se atrevían a objetar sus deseos.
Una vez mientras paseaba por las riberas del río, un hombre blanco como la nieve salió a su encuentro; junto a él una hermosa muchacha apaciguaba lo que parecía ser un rebaño de ovejas de inmaculado parecer. El Rey Kanduz se rindió ante la belleza de aquella joven doncella, pero su hermano al ver que un hombre acechaba a su niña, decidió tomar cartas en el asunto.
But the young King hurried to take the girl by force and while he was doing so, the young maiden's brother challenged Kanduz to a duel to which his sister in a fit of desperation opposed, imploring her brother to let her go in the company of that individual.
Her brother kissed her on the cheek and looked at her sister with doubt, but he let her go with that stranger not without first asking the King to take care of his sister under any circumstances. Kanduz accepted Sheddy and he loved her more than his other concubines. However, that sweetly behaved maiden kept a secret beneath her delicate gait.
Sheddy had received a curse which consisted of sacrificing her life for that of a child when she decided to become a mother. When she managed to tell this to Kanduz, consternation spread throughout the kingdom, the King called all the wise men, connoisseurs, sorcerers and wizards to seek a solution to the terrible distress that overwhelmed him. However, all he got were refusals and depression filled his heart.
Pero el joven Rey se apresuró a tomar a la joven a la fuerza y mientras lo hacía, el hermano de la joven doncella reto a Kanduz a un duelo al que su hermana en un arrebato de desesperación se opuso, implorando a su hermano que la dejara ir en compañía de aquel individuo.
Su hermano la besó en la mejilla y miraba a su hermana con duda, pero la dejo ir con aquel extraño no sin antes pedirle al Rey que cuidara de su hermana bajo cualquier circunstancia. Kanduz aceptó a Sheddy y él la amo más que a sus otras concubinas. Sin embargo, aquella doncella de dulce comportar guardaba un secreto bajo su delicado andar.
Sheddy había recibido una maldición la cual consistía en sacrificar su vida por la de un hijo cuando decidiera ser madre. Cuando ella logró contar esto a Kanduz la consternación cundió en el reino, el Rey llamo a todos los sabios, conocedores, brujos y hechiceros a que buscarán una solución a la terrible desazón que lo embargaba. Sin embargo lo único que obtuvo fueron negativas y la depresión lleno su corazón.
The gods were angry with him for all the harm he had caused to the inhabitants of the earth, so with all the sadness in the world, depression confined Kanduz to the vicinity of his kingdom. But Mikel, the tallest of the men of his squadron wanted to speak with his majesty, one day when the sun did not rise because of an eclipse that left the lands that bathed the waters of the Rahib River in darkness. That man brought good news, informing the King that perhaps the curse that rested on his beloved could have a solution if he consulted a wise hermit named Cataplum Cataplam who lived on the outskirts of the Kingdom; hope returned to the life of Kanduz.
That old man was not surprised to see his majesty in front of the door of his house, on the contrary, he seemed to be waiting for him with coffee and courtesy gifts.
— So it is you who is going to make it possible for my wife to give me descendants? —Said the King with a serene expression and a hopeful look —Even half of the Kingdom would be granted to you, if you manage that my beloved Sheddy does not die when she hears the cry of the fruit of our love.
— I understand your despair, your majesty, but only an act of unconditional love would free the Queen from the cruel fate that awaits her if she were to procreate.
— An act of love? It will be easy, there is no man who loves Sheddy more than I do —answered the King without hesitation —Tell me what I must do to rescue my beloved from the yoke of the curse?
— It is not an easy act of love, my young monarch —said Cataplum with a somber expression on his face —if you want to free your wife from death, you will have to climb the highest mountain and fight with the witch who cursed the Queen. Ephieras is an evil witch, who couldn't stand the rejection of Sheddy's daddy so she cursed her first daughter to die while bringing her firstborn into the world, but there is another way to break the spell without you climbing up to fight that monster.
Los dioses estaban molestos con él por todo el daño que había causado a los habitantes de la tierra, así que con toda la tristeza del mundo la depresión confinó a Kanduz en las inmediaciones de su Reino. Pero Mikel, el más alto de los hombres de su escuadrón quiso hablar con su majestad, un día en el cual el sol no salió por un eclipse que dejó las tierras que bañaban las aguas del Río Rahib a oscuras. Aquel hombre traía buenas nuevas, al informarle al Rey que tal vez la maldición que reposaba sobre su amada podría tener una solución si consultaba a un sabio ermitaño llamado Cataplum Cataplam quien vivía a las afueras del Reino; la esperanza volvió a la vida de Kanduz.
Aquel Viejo hombre no se sorprendió al ver a su majestad frente a la puerta de su casa, por el contrario parecía estar esperándolo con café y regalos de cortesía.
— Entonces ¿Eres tú quien va a hacer que mi mujer pueda darme descendientes? —dijo el Rey con expresión serena y una mirada esperanzada —Hasta la mitad del Reino te sería otorgado, si logras que mi amada Sheddy no muera al escuchar el llanto del fruto de nuestro amor.
— Entiendo su desespero su majestad, pero a la Reina, solo un acto de amor incondicional la libraría del cruel destino que le espera si llega a procrear.
— ¿Un acto de amor? Será fácil, no hay hombre que ame más a Sheddy que yo —respondió el Rey sin dudar —¿Dígame qué debo hacer para rescatar a mi amada del yugo de la maldición?
— No es nada fácil ese acto de amor mi Joven monarca —dijo Cataplum con una expresión sombría en rostro — si usted quiere librar a su esposa de la muerte, tendrá que escalar hasta la montaña más alta y luchar con la bruja que maldijo a la Reina. Ephieras es una bruja malvada, que no pudo soportar el rechazo del papa de Sheddy por lo que maldijo a su primera hija para que muriera mientras traía al mundo a su primogénito, pero existe otra manera de romper el hechizo sin que usted suba a luchar contra ese monstruo.
— What is that other way? —Kanduz said sleepily-I will do anything for my beloved.
— The other way is to detach yourself from the world in which you live, abandon your life as King and change to an alternate reality in which you will no longer have the same privileges, if you decide to abandon all that for love, then the curse will no longer have any effect.
— If I climb the mountain I will run the risk of dying and my wife will be automatically banished, the gods have punished me for the evil I have caused. I prefer to leave my privileges behind and have a quiet life in Sheddy's company. That is the option I choose, to sacrifice my reign for the life of the person I love.
As soon as he said those words Sheddy's curse disappeared and the old sage Cataplum Cataplam had saved the Queen and the King at the same time, since the only thing that could break the spell was an act of pure true love. Kanduz's life did not change at all in terms of luxuries but as a person he became a fairer King than he had ever been.
— ¿Cuál es esa otra manera? — dijo Kanduz con el sueño fruncido—hare lo que sea para por mi amada.
— La otra manera es desprenderse del mundo en el cual vive, abandonar su vida como Rey y cambiar a una realidad alterna en la cual ya no tendrá los mismos privilegios, si usted decide abandonar todo eso por amor, entonces la maldición ya no tendrá efecto.
—Si escalo la montaña correré el riesgo de morir y mi esposa seria automáticamente desterrada, los dioses me han castigado por el mal que he causado. Prefiero dejar mis privilegios atrás y tener una vida tranquila en compañía de Sheddy. Esa es la opción que escojo, sacrificar mi reinado por la vida de la persona que amo.
En cuanto dijo aquellas palabras la maldición de Sheddy desapareció y el viejo sabio Cataplum Cataplam había salvado a la Reina y al Rey al mismo tiempo, ya que lo único que podía hacer romper el hechizo era un acto de amor puro verdadero. La vida de Kanduz no cambio para nada en cuanto a lujos pero como persona logro convertirse en un Rey más justo de lo que alguna vez había sido.
