The Giver
Is an American dystopian drama film, which was based on the novel (1993) of the same name. Starring Brenton Thwaites (as Jonas), this story shows how humans reorganized society after a calamity referred to as The Ruin. In this new society life is very different from how we know it today, some feelings were removed or controlled to keep the peace, sexual desire is kept at bay by chemicals and children are produced by genetic engineering.
El Dador de Recuerdos es un filme americano de ciencia ficción y drama social, que estuvo basada en la novela (1993) con el mismo nombre. Protagonizada por Brenton Thwaites (como Jonas), esta historia muestra como los humanos reorganizaron a la sociedad después de una calamidad a la que se refieren como "La Ruina". En esta nueva sociedad la vida es muy diferente a como la conocemos en la actualidad, algunos sentimientos lograron ser removidos o controlados para mantener la paz, el deseo sexual es mantenido a raya mediante químicos y los niños son producidos mediante ingeniería genética.
The roles of each person as well as their responsibilities are given based on their abilities, skills and age, I mean, as they grow older they have more things to worry about but it also opens the door to new activities. All the regulations present in this community were made in order to avoid conflicts, having equality as the ultimate goal.
Los roles de cada quien al igual que sus responsabilidades son otorgados basados en sus habilidades, destrezas y en la edad que tengan, es decir, a medida que crecen tienen más cosas de las que preocuparse pero también les abre las puertas hacía nuevas actividades. Todas la regulaciones presentes en esta comunidad se hicieron con el fin de evitar los conflictos, teniendo como objetivo final la igualdad.
The thing is as I mentioned before, depending on the age new tasks are added, and when they reach a certain age someone else decides for them what they will do for the rest of their life taking into account their weaknesses and strengths. Young Jonas is given the most important task of all, to be the new bearer of all the memories that were erased, which will be transmitted to him by the Giver who is the only person who knows EVERYTHING about the past. The Giver of Memories exists in order to have someone who can give his opinion based on experience when it's needed.
La cosa es que como mencioné antes, dependiendo de la edad se van añadiendo nuevas tareas, y al cumplir cierta edad alguien más decide por ellos que harán por el resto de su vida teniendo en cuenta sus debilidades y fortalezas. Al joven Jonas se le otorga la tarea más importante de todas, ser el nuevo portador de todos los recuerdos que fueron borrados, los cuales serán transmitidos a él por el Dador que es la única persona que sabe TODO sobre el pasado. El Dador de Recuerdos existe con el fin de contar con alguien que pueda dar su opinión basado en la experiencia cuando sea necesario.
One of the most curious things about this movie is that it starts out totally in black and white, which I didn't understand at first, however everything makes sense as the story unfolds, by this I don't mean that the whole movie is in black and white, just part of it. I loved that peculiarity, especially because you can perfectly understand the reason for it and it also gives strength to the point they wanted to make clear.
Una de las cosas más curiosas de esta película es que empieza totalmente en blanco y negro, cosa que no entendía al principio, no obstante todo va cobrando sentido a medida que la historia se desarrolla, con esto no quiero decir que toda la película es en blanco y negro, solo una parte. Me encantó esa peculiaridad, sobre todo porque se entiende perfectamente el porqué de ello y además le da fuerza al punto que querían dejar en claro.
Going back to the regulations, some of them are: no prolonged contact is allowed between people who are not relatives, there are certain topics that forbidden, no person feels pain and they even have a kind of code that must be respected when speaking, for example, if someone tries to talk about something as normal for us as love immediately someone corrects him instantly asking him to express himself according to the rules.
Volviendo a las regulaciones, algunas de ellas son: no se permite el contacto prolongado entre persona que no son familias, hay ciertos temas que no se pueden tocar, ninguna persona siente dolor e incluso tienen una de especie de código que se debe respetar al hablar, por ejemplo, si alguien intenta hablar de algo tan normal para nosotros como el amor inmediatamente alguien le corrige al instante pidiendo que se exprese según lo establecido.
As a consequence of not having memories these people do some things they shouldn't, but because of their very ignorance they aren't aware of the terrible acts they commit. Speaking of that I was very disturbed by a particular scene where they hurt a baby and although it was not something deliberate, but rather something that was normal for them, I was still very shocked by how crude it was.
Como consecuencia de no tener recuerdos estas personas hacen algunas cosas que no deberían, pero por su misma ignorancia no son conscientes de los actos tan terribles que cometen. Hablando de eso me perturbó mucho una escena en particular donde le hacían daño a un bebé y aunque no fue algo adrede, sino más bien algo que para ellos era normal, de igual manera me impactó mucho lo crudo que fue.
Another curious fact about this movie is the appearance of singer Taylor Swift, who plays Rosemary the daughter of the Giver of Memories and even though her performance is short, the character she plays is very important, since at some point she had been selected as the previous memory bearer, but she did not know how to deal with some memories of the past and was not able to continue performing her job. And having a very futuristic atmosphere in the movie, I loved the fact that they weren't always dressed in white as usual, they also wore casual clothes with other colors.
Otro dato curioso sobre esta película es la aparición de la cantante Taylor Swift, que interpreta a Rosemary la hija del Dador de los Recuerdos y a pesar de que su actuación es corta, el personaje que interpreta es muy importante, ya que en algún momento había sido seleccionada como la anterior portadora de recuerdos, pero no supo como lidiar con algunas memorias del pasado y no fue capaz de seguir desempeñando su trabajo. Y teniendo la película un ambiente muy futurista, me encantó que no siempre estaban todos vestidos de blanco como es usual, sino que también usaban ropa casual con otros colores.
At first glance it may seem that everything is perfect and everyone is happy but on the other hand, you can clearly conclude that it's a community of humans living in total harmony, but these "humans" were practically stripped of their humanity in order to avoid all the things that in the past caused what they call the Ruin, which basically are all those conflicts that caused human beings to destroy or eliminate each other, whether it was because of their differences, prejudices, to obtain more power, to defend what they believe is right or worst of all, to reach the conclusion that wars are a solution.
A simple vista puede parecer que todo es perfecto y todos son felices pero por otro lado claramente puedes llegar a la conclusión de que es una comunidad de humanos que viven en total armonía, pero estos "humanos" prácticamente fueron despojados de su humanidad con el fin de evitar todas las cosas que en el pasado ocasionaron lo que ellos llaman la Ruina, que básicamente son todos aquellos conflictos que provocaron que los seres humanos se atodestruyeran o que se eliminaran unos a otros, haya sido por sus diferencias, prejuicios, por la obtención de más poder, por defender lo que creen que es correcto o lo peor de todo, llegar a la conclusión de que las guerras son una solución.
This is a film to reflect on, (from my point of view) it was made with the purpose of awakening in the viewer that love for life and also to be grateful in spite of everything. I have always thought that life is beautiful and although everyone has their own point of view, we all judge our life according to our experiences, customs, cultures and others, but we have the last word ourselves, only we decide what to do with it and this film made me think about all that. I hope you are encouraged to see it, and if you have already seen it, share your opinions.
Esta es una película para reflexionar, (desde mi punto de vista) se hizo con el fin de despertar en el espectador ese amor por la vida y también el estar agradecidos a pesar de todo. Siempre he pensado que la vida es hermosa y aunque cada quien tiene su punto de vista, todos juzgamos nuestra vida según nuestras vivencias costumbres, culturas y demás, pero la última palabra la tenemos nosotros mismos, solo nosotros decidimos que hacer con ella y esta película me hizo pensar en todo eso. I've seen this movie halfway. There was some foulplay from the authorities I think. I kind of lost interest from there.
