Team Australia new recruits 11/04/18 and Curie's call for help

in #teamaustralia6 years ago (edited)

Hi everyone, it's been two weeks since the last update, mostly because there haven't been that many Aussies getting back to me with regards to joining. It seems that the interest in Team Australia is directly correlated to the price of steem.

Today's gorgeous photo comes from @kieranstone and is of the 12 Apostles, along the Great Ocean Road, Victoria. If you like it then go upvote it here.

Meet-ups

Adelaide

Australia's steemit capital had it's end of month drinks on the 29 March with it's lowest turn out yet—15. Steemit mascot @rustle made his debut, appearing in a bunch of selfies and stealing beers before heading off to Sydney with @ratticus.

Credit: @holoz0r

Melbourne

The next meet-up is scheduled for Saturday 14 April from 3pm at Father's Office bar. Info here.

@ratticus will be in attendance making him the first Aussie to go to meet-ups in three different states, and he will be bringing @rustle with him. Guard your beers Melbournians.

ANZAC Day

These comps are still going if you're interested. The karaoke competition, which has a couple of entries already was summarised in a post this week by @bmj.

@ravenruis' ANZAC soldier writing challenge is also still on. Info here

Curie's call for help

As some/most of you know, one of the steemit hats I wear is 'curie curator'. @curie is the oldest and largest curation guide on steemit, with a focus on upvoting undiscovered and undervalued content. It's a cool job and I love doing it. One things we get out of it as curators is feedback from people who've been curied. It's really inspiring to hear how a big upvote has changed someone's views of the platform, or in some cases, their lives. As such, we've launched the tag mycuriestory. It's a way for people to share their stories of what @curie means to them. @holoz0r was one of the first people to post his curie story. I know quite a lot of other Team Australia members have received @curie upvotes as well—hell, I've curied a bunch of you. If this meant something to you, like staying on the platform for instance, we'd really love to hear about it.

@curie has also lost its spot as a Top 20 witness due to some technicalities that were experienced last week. Although the server problems have been resolved the damage was done and several large votes were lost. This combined with losing some big delegations over the past couple of months is having an impact of @curie's operations now. You may have noticed the upvotes aren't as big as they once were. In an attempt to turn this around we've put out a call out for delegations and witness votes. This post sets out our case and provides some statistics on the impact of @curie in terms of user engagement and retention. We are hoping that by showing people the value of @curie though mycuriestory and via our statistics, it will encourage community support of the project. Please check it out feel free to ask questions if you have them.

Mentoring

Given the slowdown in the number of people joining Team Australia at the moment, @buggedout has chosen to put the mentoring project on hiatus. But before he goes, congrats to @lordnigel who volunteered to mentor @what-is-life back in February and won himself a silver STEEM Round as a result.

The usual community notices

You should follow @mrsquiggle, who is doing a great job recognising and rewarding Aussie creativity by curating quality content.

Check out the awesome Minnow Support Project (MSP). Details on how to join are here. Come say hi in the #teamaustralia chat room in PAL-Discord. It's fun and you will make new friends.

You should consider voting for the MSP witnesses, particularly @ausbitbank and @aggroed, who've a done a great job in getting the MSP project off the ground.

Lastly, if you're feeling generous, you can delegate SP to the Team Australia upvote bots @centerlink and/or @mrsquiggle (or any other bot you like) using Vessel. You can delegate to any of the MSP bots using this link.

Candidate 1

Name and bio

@linnyplant is a software consultant from Melbourne whose interests include writing, reading, running, and cycling.

Intro post here.

Fun fact

"I'm a disorganized, 'introverted' chatter-box who is mesmerized by colorful lights, loves chocolate, old junky/ tacky/ kitsch/ retro/ mid-century stuff, reading romance novels and is addicted to diet-coke.

Hmm, can you be an introverted chatterbox? I thought being introverted meant the opposite?

Candidate 2

Name and bio

@happycelia is @chenlocus' daughter and she lives in Melbourne. When she's not at school she likes to write stories.

Intro post here.

Fun fact

"I love creative stuff, especially things that people make and are unique, not like others who just want to show off by being popular. I also like persuasive writing."

Nice. I read some of your short stories and they were pretty good.

Candidate 3

Name and bio

@khagen8te is from Adelaide and @lordnigel's mate. He once sold Shaun Micallef a Walkman and served Thandie Newton (Westworld) a beer.

Intro post here

Fun fact

"Friends and I were walking back from a cinema in town and I was twirling a tiny replica gun-lighter whilst lighting a cigarette heading back to our car. A lady must've reported to the authorities there was a 'gun wielding' young male just off Pirie St. We were actually driving out of the car park and into a connecting side street when my friend who was driving kind of shrieked in terror as five fully-equipped, automatic weapon bearing Star force officers materialized out of thin air stopped the car, removed us (very meekly) from said car and hand-cuffed us on the ground. After a tense situation, it was clearly identified that the weapon in question was a gun lighter I had bought on holiday in Indonesia."

That is an awesome story. I like it a lot.

Candidate 4

Name and bio

@riverflows is a qualified yoga teacher from the Surfcoast, Victoria. She's into surfing, paddleboarding, writing and literature, and used to live in a decked-out old truck back in England.

Intro post here

Fun fact

"I knew a guy for three days and we decided we were going to get married, so I went back to Australia, packed up everything I had, and moved to the UK to be with him, and we got married eight months later. He only had a truck and £90 to his name, and I had a five year old, who he hadn't met. I guess you can say I'm a bit impulsive at times, but my Dad said the other day that if it wasn't for my enthusiasm and 'loudness' at times we'd be a very different family. I think he meant that in a really nice way."

I love that story of how you met your husband. Risky obviously, but fun. And so far it's worked out so that's good.

Congratulations everyone, you're now part of Team Australia

The rules for joining Team Australia

If you’re not yet a member and want to be, this is what you need to do:

  1. Vote here for our resident steemit witness and our Minister for Welfare @ausbitbank.
  2. Send me your introduction post so I can find out a bit about you. If you’re new to steemit you'll have to write one so use the introduceyourself and teamaustralia tags to help boost your following. Use this handy guide by @teamsteem if you don't know what to write.
  3. If it’s not mentioned in your introductory post, tell me which city and country you’re in, cos let's face it, a lot of us live in Australia's fourth largest city—London. You need to have a connection to Australia to join.
  4. Tell me a fun fact about yourself. This can be anything. For example, maybe you have eight kids and three dogs, or you rode your bike across America, or you won the blue ribbon for javelin throwing at sports day back in high school, or Toadie came into the pub you work at one day and you served him a beer, or, maybe you can fit 55 maltesers in your mouth like Ed Sheeran can. It doesn’t matter what it is, I want a fun fact about you! The more fun, the better.
  5. Regularly check the Team Australia and Australia tags and upvote/follow the content you like. You can show your support by following the centerlink curation trail in steemauto. Instructions are here.
  6. Comment below or DM me in PAL-Discord that you want to join.

Once I receive this information I will try my best to write a good introductory paragraph about you for the official Team Australia membership updates. So the better your information is, the better I can make you sound. Where relevant, please use the teamaustralia and australia tags to promote your work. I will try and post weekly updates.

All new members have been registered for @centerlink votes now :)

I'm interested in joining Team Australia, not so interested in showing my face on the platform just yet ;D But I've been keeping watch since I joined Steemit last month, and will write up a new introduction post specifically for joining the TeamAustralia community sometime soon! <3

In the meantime, I've followed @TeamAustralia, have voted @ausbitbank for witness, and do check out the tags from time to time. Looking forward to being a member, eventually! :) :)

Cool. You know where to find me.

Welcome to the new members:
@linnyplant
@happycelia
@khagen8te
@riverflows

We are following you now and looking forward to seeing your posts.

Fabulous.. cheers!

Welcome to all the new members! Great to see more Melbournians!

Hummmm 'introverted chatterbox'...... does that mean @linnyplant talks to herself a lot? hehehehe

Oh my goodness, at quick glance I thought @happycelia was my niece. You look alike at first glance. Even my partner who happened to look over to my screen said it.

@khagen8te lol gun lighter. Did you make the news that night?

@riverflows that is some story. I wonder who was more shocked when they met, your husband or five year old?

Once again, welcome!

Hi supersoju, you’re spot on. I do talk to myself a lot. It’s a bad habit, especially when people notice... :)

😂😂😂😂
When people notice, do they slowly walk away from you to increase the distance?

Nah, they might look at me funny and then I have to explain myself. :)

Hahah thanks! They were both fairly prepared, and husband told him a fun fact about how many whales could fit on a blue whales tongue, so alls good!

How many whales can fit on a blue whale's tongue? I'm confused.

Lol. Linny talking to herself. I like that. I wish I'd thought of it.

There is more to @khagen8te's story. It's in his intro post. I didn't have the space for it all here.

Ahhhh I see, I'll go read it now
👍

update: hahahaha I just read it now.

hi @choogirl I would love to be a team member. I have followed the rules above but I am a bit confused though how to send you my "fun fact". Is there some way of private message on steemit I haven't seen or do I just cut and paste a little spiel here? My intro post is https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@noelizzy/first-post-who-am-i-and-why-am-i-on-steemit

Welcome all the new members.

I must get around to writing a 'my curie story' about how it helped my start on the platform. It's great that there's at least 1 curie curator inside #teamaustralia to help get our new members a bit of a head start when they do something decent early on.

There's two actually. Aussieninja is also a curie curator.

Excellent to know, and I'm sure I've got one of you to thank at least for being hit from time to time. Thanks :)

Maybe, maybe not. There are a lot of curators and a bunch of them look in teamaustralia.

Lots of new faces!

With #teamaustralia members now spread far and wide...

It's going to be fun when state of origin fires up in a few weeks :)

Keep up the great work @choogirl #ourbestonground

We need to get Curie back, what ever the cost, dig deep guys!

Welcome to all the new members :)

Welcome everyone! @linnyplant, @happycelia, @khagen8te and @riverflows!

Hi Kieran, thanks for the welcome. :)

hi @choogirl! My name is @chels and I'm from Sydney :) Really happy to found the Australian family here on Steemit!

Here's my introduction post:
https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@chels/welcome-to-the-chronicles-of-chelsey-ft-my-first-post

I've followed @teamaustralia and voted for @ausbitbank

fun fact: My name Chelsey is an anagram for lychees :o

Have a lovely day :)

You are on my list @chels. I'll let you know when I've done the next update.

Awesome selection as always. I will definitely write a curie story. My writing account has only found any kind of audience because of Curie. How long do I have?

I miss your posts. They are all kinds of awesome. The curie tag is ongoing as far as I'm aware. I need to write one too but I got caught up in writing an ANZAC Day post for ravenruis' writing challenge today. Then I'll have a TA update tomorrow, so it's back on the back burner.

I don't know how you keep up with all your Steemian duties. I am in awe. I miss writing. I have a piece that has been on the back burner for 4 weeks while I was moving. I am about to dust it off and finish it this week. Then I will write a curie piece.

Yay! I'm standing by next to the upvote button. Argh, who am I kidding, you're on my steemauto.

ha ha I am honoured t be on your list. Oh the pressure.

Thank you for another wonderful post to introduce us to new Team Australia members @choogirl and to keep us in the loop with fellow Aussies scattered far and wide. I was very happy to read about how I can thank @curie for his amazing gifts of upvotes. It will be a pleasure to write 'mycuriestory,' resteem this post and make sure to give him my witness vote. Team Australia is so very supportive and I really appreciate this great community. Warm welcome to all new members. You are in good hands.

Thank you Trudee, for your kind words. Yes, you should totally write a 'mycuriestory'. I need to write one as well; not as an upvote recipient (sadly) but as a curator.

Thank you for your encouragement @choogirl I will look out for your curie story as I really enjoy your writing. A lot goes into blogs like the one you have written here; both with time and content. Have a great weekend.

Welcome everyone!! Great Job choo. I'm sure we'll get more recruits soon.

As for curie. I have never gotten a curie vote ever and was a bit put off when I saw someone post one of those 10 true things and 1 lie and got a curie vote. Word count estimate roughly 300 max not including all her footer words and f. all pics.

From where I'm sitting just as well it lost delegations if that's the new curie standard.

I've never been curied either Arly. I think part of our problem was when we were at our most eligible the max payout was $1 and generally we were over that.

I'm not aware of the post you're referring too. Was that today? I'm intrigued.

Ahhh yeh I tell people my auto vote game is strong that's why I can't be Curied. Ever. Is it really my fault I'm so lovable Choo ;)

Nah it was a few days ago actually and I did notice Curie wasn't on top like she always was.

It may have been a small community Curie upvote. It doesn't sound like something that would get a big Curie, but unless I know the post I can't check. DM it to me if you like and I'll look.

Huge welcome to all the newcomers; and a bonus mallsballer in the mix.
Thanks, @choogirl; you always know just what to get me :)

It's like blockchain Christmas! He actually seems really funny. I hope he comes to a meet up.

Welcome to the new members!!!! Curie it's such an amazing project, I definitely voted for the witness position.
i HOPE everything will sort out!!!
Now I found out about this tag mycuriestory, so we can use it only to express our experience with curie.
Great job @choogirl

Great. If you have a story, you should tell it.

Great job again @choogirl and welcome to all the new members!

Thanks Bugged.

Welcome everyone!!!

Sooo cool I got a coin coming, I never win anything..hehe stoked!

Congrats mate. Bugged should have DM'd you on discord about it.

Hey @choogirl ... how do i get a team aus banner thingie with my tag on it? Xxxx

You need to contact @bearone (Arly). She makes them all. I think she might be charging a small fee now. You can DM her in discord.

@khagen8te just sends to be going for it with extra fun facts! I don't know who Shaun Micallef is, but I know Thandie Newton.

Not good news about @curie! They've always had my witness vote, for what little it's worth. It's hard to know who to vote for most of the time but some easily stand out as huge support for the platform. I hope they can make it back into the top 20. Can't believe I never thought to follow them before though. 😳 Thanks for the heads up on that.

I think that is one of my favourite fun facts so far!

Yeah, bit shit about curie, but we are working really hard to rally the troops and get witness votes, so hopefully that--combined with higher steem prices--will help us get back on top. It would be a massive shame if the project goes under.

Thanks for getting in contact with me and the induction via this post. Very informative post.

Welcome to the team Linny.

Just letting you know I voted aggroed & ausbit as witnesses just a moment ago, I thought I did this previously! Curie is already on the list. :)

It’s always great to see more people joining the group. Welcome to all of you guys. Looking forward to read your content

Welcome all new team Australia peeps!!

Thanks @choogirl for all your efforts not just with this post but your efforts with team Australia, curie and the Steemit platform. It’s great for me personally to see you still giving your best and yeah I agree its honestly not a surprise interest has dropped off since the price of Steemit has dropped off. People love to ride the wave and hop on when it’s hot but you know who the real supporters are when things aren’t as great!

Aw thanks for your kind words. It's always nice to hear my work is appreciated.

Welcome :)

Hi!

Could I please join @teamaustralia? I've been on Steemit for months but didn't realise there was a such a great group! I'm in Donvale, Victoria. I've just worked out how to vote for witnesses, so I've voted @ausbitbank and @curie.

Fun fact about me, despite being in a suit everyday as a corporate consultant, my side hussle was been to dance on podiums at 60s themed corporate gigs dressed as Austin Powers.... but no one has ever recognised me through the wig, glasses and fake teeth.

Hi, can you link your intro post here too please, then I'll get you on the list for next week.

I have voted @curie as witness and I'm now at my max votes. I was surprised a month ago with my first curied post on my article on Virtual Medicine. I really appreciated the notice and I was miserable the day I wrote it!

Oh yay, I'm glad you got curied. You've been on my watchlist for ages, but I do miss a bunch of stuff.

Thanks for the intro. Glad to be part of the team
Sorry about the shadey photo! Wish I could make 14th in Melbourne but I have a yoga thing then we are seeing Amyl and the Sniffers at the Curtin Bandroom in the evening so its a big day all round.

You're welcome. Melbourne meet-ups come up frequently. There'll be other opportunities, don't worry.

Hi @choogirl another Aussie reporting for duty. I posted my introduction post a few months ago when I joined: https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@beggars/hello-from-australia - Unlike most people, I am from Queensland. Here to tilt the scales of Ozdom and reducing the dominance of the Melbournians.

Following @teamaustralia and I actually voted for @ausbitbank as witness a few months ago already.

Interesting fact about me, I love Alfalfa sprouts and after a dare a few years ago, I discovered I can fit an entire punnet of sprouts into my mouth, chew and swallow them. I've done it a few sporadic times since.

There's plenty of Queenslanders in TA. Where specifically are you from (if you don't mind saying)?

You're on my list for the next update. I'll let you know when it's done.

That's awesome. Seemingly whenever I run into anyone from Australia online, they're either from Melbourne or Sydney. I don't mind saying where I am from at all, I am from Brisbane.

And great, thank you very much. I am still trying to find my niche and currently going through the motions of trying to build an audience, the tires are definitely spinning at present. Steemit is a hard platform to crack if you're not willing to spend hundreds on voting bots.

Hey @beggars there are a good bunch of Steemians here in SEQLD. We’ve had a few SteemUps and if we weren’t so laid back up here we’d do some more. Lol

@stephen-somers I've actually started the thinking process to organise the next one (and hopefully some more afterwards) and I'm trying to rally some experimented steemians to help me co-organise.
Are you on Discord? What's the easiest to get in touch with you?

Cool. Keep me in the loop please so I can promote it for you.

I sure will!

Haha. Well, it has been too damn hot to really do anything. Fortunately, it is starting to cool down now, so maybe a Steem meetup is overdue. Would love to attend the next one when it happens.

Yeah, steemit is hard when you join. TA will help with that. Also look around for other groups that bring people together with similar interests.

Oh, there's lots of Brissy/SEQ steemians on here in TA. There's been a couple of meet-ups, but Adelaide and Melbourne are the most organised there.

Quenslanders... humph.. haha xxx

Hello and welcome to the new members of teamaustralia.

That gun lighter 😂😂😂😂

Welcome everyone!

It's a good story hey?

Welcome new friends!

KUBBY!!!!

Choogirl 💜 i need to find more contest to nominate you for in order to get more post out of you! How’s the planning to travel again or the apartment that’s being built for you? Those topics would make excellent post!

I just realised this morning I'm flying out a month today (11th). As per usual, I thought it was later and I had "heaps of time". So I really need to do some organising around that. I also have a few post ideas up my sleeve but I need t work out when I'm writing them.

I’m excited about these post!

Welcome folks! Join the discord and say Hi! If you guys have any questions feel free to ask me or any of the other members. We are a great bunch :)

wonderful meeting

very good udea. keep it up.

Hi!

I would like to join @teamaustralia, I have read the rules and voted for witness. Here's my intro post https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@scrawly/hello-aussies
And hmm my fun fact: I live in Doge Palace ;D.

-upvoted-

Great! You're on my list. I'll let you know when you've been introduced.
