Musk’s Latest Idea: Turning Parked Teslas Into a Supercomputer But At What Cost?

Elon Musk is once again coming back with another one of his grand schemes: taking all the Teslas that are simply parked and turned them into a gigantic worldwide supercomputer. He suggests up to 100 million Teslas could be connected together to assist training AI and while interesting, can this even be accomplished?

Honestly, sounds like one of those ideas that sounds fantastic in theory but has too many drawbacks and will most likely never work. First off, how exactly is Tesla going to keep all of the cars constantly connected to their network? What happens in areas without good cell service? Then comes the issue of security. If my car is now somewhat of a mini server, who is going to be responsible for keeping private data private? And don’t even start to think about the electricity, who is going to be paying for the energy it will take to keep those cars running when they are currently just parked?

Musk is brilliant at coming up with big, audacious ideas, however, not every idea he has thought up turns out to be a viable idea. While we can all dream down the line about these possibilities, the sad fact of the matter is there are just too many real world issues and problems that come up with his ideas that would need to be solved before something of this magnitude could actually take place.
