Frozen Lake Life ~ #theycallthisicefishing

in #technology3 years ago (edited)

I am currently sitting on top of about 16 inches of solid ice. Comfortably, may I add.

Located on North Arm Bay, on Lake Minnetonka,

32 degrees out, who needs a coat?!

My brothers ice house is equipped with a heater, music, tv (when it's not being fixed, like right now), microwave, and of course, holes.

Holes?

Yes, holes, to fish out of whilst in the ice house.

This is where I would insert a picture of a huge fish coming out of that hole. But to do that, I would actually have to catch said fish.

So far, no dice.

But, I am typing this on a laptop, powered by a generator, utilizing my brothers Verizon hot spot to access the internet.

How cool is that?! I'm out in the middle of a frozen lake and I can talk to all of you, who are all over the damn world! Crazy!

So while the fish aren't biting, I decided to make this trip post worthy. Take some pics, and marvel at how far we have come technologically.

Am I the only one who thinks this is crazy and cool?

Making moves on the crypto market, on a frozen lake.

Does not get much better than this.

Unless we catch a fish ;)

Having grown up in New Jersey, I never developed a love of ice fishing. But !BEER — that I like.

Dude, that might be the happiest I've ever seen you! We gotta get together soon for some beers, LOL!

I've had that blood orange before. I liked it. But clearly not enough to win me over for another 12 pack.

Glad to see you are enjoying it!

Thank you! Much appreciated!!!

Cool dude!! ;)

WTF?!

lol, I never got a notification for this.

He's IN!

Wow that's a real nice ice fishing shed. I assumed they were just hunting blinds placed on ice.

Thanks man!

Idk why I haven't been getting my usual notifications, so sorry about the delayed response.

There are for sure a lot of small, pull-behind one or 2man shelters, similar to a blind.

But then there are some like this....and tbh, this one, while nice, is like a 3, on a scale of 10, of what some of these things can be.

I'm talking beds.....plural, comfy ones. With more than one tv. And a fridge! Now, why anyone would need a fridge when you're on a frozen lake, idk, but they exist. I could go on and on...but people are basically taking homes out there. Pretty crazy when ya think about it.

Hah no worries, I am a little delayed as well in responding. I tend to wait a few days before I reply to comments.

Wow I did not realize they make such nice fishing houses, I mean it makes sense. Maybe one day ill rent one and try it out. Sounds like some fun being in a nice house not freezing your ass off.

Congratulations homes, well deserved. 👍🏿

Thanks bud! Still trying to get you to 69!!!!!

Wow, that looks a lot nicer than my ice fishing trips! I usually am just out on the open ice with nothing around me. I know that out on the Saginaw Bay they build small towns like the one in your picture out of shanties. Because it is connected to one of the great lakes, it never fails that people have to be rescued because they went several miles out on the ice and part of it breaks off. I prefer to stick to inland lakes when I do my ice fishing!

Lol, I suppose I could see that happening up on Lake Superior, luckily I stick with inland lakes too, so not to much to worry about.

We are in a cold snap right now, don't think I could handle sitting on a bucket with negative wind gusts in my face....I'll take a warm shelter and all the modern conveniences thank you very much.

I think of my ice fishing experience was like yours, I would go much more frequently than I do. Hopefully you were able to snag some tasty perch or whitefish on your trip.

Epic post.
I live about 10 min away from a very small lake,
Last week I drove by and saw tons of little tents and people fishing out on it. The thought of it freaks me the fuck out hahaha. I imagine people in the tents create heat.. not to mention HEATERS?!... how do you make sure it’s not enough to start melting the ice to the point you find yourself in the water? Always mind boggles me.

The ice is so thick and the weather so cold that it would take FOREVER to melt through. The lakes stay frozen in Minnesota until April-May. Heaters on the ice may make a little layer of melted water on the surface, but it will never melt through. You could take a pot of boiling water and pour it on the ice and it would freeze as quickly as it sort of melts a tiny bit of ice. Pretty crazy!

I'll take EPIC every day plus Sunday.

Thanks man.

It's a little scary at first, then you understand it...then, you live it.
