Bouncing the ball up and to the ground with the racket;
Trying to help these beginners to have the feel of the ball on the racket. The harder you hit the ball to the ground is the faster the ball will be and the more difficulty it becomes in controlling it. These had to learn to hit the ball with regulated energy so that they be able to control it and become more consistent.

Take a look at the video:

Throwing and catching the ball back and forth with your partner;
The aim here is to help these players learn to keep their focus on the ball and also ensure enough timing on the ball as these are very vital aspects during the game play. Missing the ball in tennis can cost you lots of points that are given away to your opponent.

Took it to another level by making the drill a bit faster and more challenging with one ball and also proceeded to another level of using two balls. At this point these learners had to be faster and more focused on the ball in order to cope up with the increased pace and ensure that they don’t let the ball bounce to the ground before catching it.

Bounce and Catch the ball;
These had to learn the overall concept of the game. In tennis there is only an allowance of one bounce before the ball is played back to your opponent’s court side except for the volleys. Any double bounce while in the tennis match is a lost point to your opponent. They had to grasp that concept by practicing the throw and catch the ball drill while maintaining a single bounce rule.

Fore-hand and Back-hand techniques; these are also some other very vital basics of the game. The ball has to be played with a proper technique in order to achieve consistency and accuracy in the shots taken while in the game play. We worked on the fore hand and back hand techniques.

The players had to learn that while in the game play the starting point is the “Ready position” before thinking about hitting any ball as you have to be prepared for any ball coming to either your forehand side or the backhand side.
