The Football Exchange Coming Soon to Sportblock

THE FOOTBALL EXCHANGE — Buy Low. Sell High. Every Premier League Player Has a Price.

There are a hundred fantasy football games. They all work the same way: pay in, pick a team, pray, and split a pot months later.

We built something different.

The Football Exchange is a stock market where the stocks wear boots. Every Premier League player has a price in MEDALS. You buy players from SportsBlock, hold them while they play, and sell them back whenever the market's open. Prices move every gameweek on real performance — form moves price. Spot the underpriced player before his run starts, ride the reprice, cash out.

No waiting until May. The moment you're right, you're paid. It's the difference between betting on a horse and owning it — and nothing like it exists on Hive or any other blockchain for that matter. We will give a prize to the users who make the most MEDALs all season obviously and there will be a leaderboard showing how much everyone is gaining or losing

How a price is made

Two ingredients: what a player usually does, and what he's doing right now.

That's the whole engine. Real example — Haaland, priced by the model across a full season:

Base score6 (from his prior-season record)
Last 4 appearances13 · 2 · 9 · 13 FPL points
His price that week10 × (6 + 37) ÷ 5 = 86 MEDALS

Run him through all 38 gameweeks and he swings between 34 and 106 MEDALS. Double-digit hauls send him over 100. A string of blanks and he's half price. That volatility is the trade.

Three rules worth knowing:

  • Didn't play? Doesn't count. A missed gameweek is skipped, not scored as zero — the pricing window just reaches one week further back. Injured stars deflate slowly. The sharpest trade in the game is buying a fit-again player before his first match back.
  • Double gameweeks count once — two matches of points land in a single appearance, so doubles swing prices hard.
  • New signings with no Premier League history are priced off their transfer-market valuation until they've played.

Every price is auditable. Tap any player and you'll see exactly which four appearances made his number. No black box.

How you play

  1. Deposit MEDALS into the Exchange — one wallet signature. Your tokens sit in the public escrow account @sp-exchange, verifiable on-chain any time.
  2. Build your squad: up to eleven players — 1 GK, 3 DEF, 4 MID, 3 FWD, one copy of any player. Partial squads are fine. Cheap fodder starts around 10–30 MEDALS; the superstars open at 70–90. A full competitive XI runs roughly 400–500 MEDALS.
  3. Trade without limits. No transfer caps, no wildcards, no chips. Buy and sell as much as you like while the market's open. Every trade settles instantly.
  4. The deadline locks the market — same deadline as FPL. Matches play. When the final whistle of the round goes, every player reprices and the market reopens.
  5. Sell high, or don't. Hold through a purple patch or cash out after one good week. Withdraw your cash back to your Hive wallet whenever you like — even while the market's locked.

The honest part — how the house makes (and loses) money

You buy at the market price plus a 5% spread. You sell at the market price. That spread is the house's only edge.

Which means: your profit comes out of our pocket. If you read the market better than the crowd, you win at SportsBlock's expense — that's not a bug, that's the promise. Worked example from the model:

Buy Haaland at 82 (market 78 + spread). He hauls 16 points at the weekend. The reprice prints 106. Sell: +24 MEDALS, +29% in one week.

Back the wrong week and the same maths runs red. Buy at 82, two blanks, the price prints 56: −26. Nobody refunds a bad read.

The leaderboard ranks pure profit — cash plus squad value minus what you put in. A bigger bankroll doesn't buy rank. Only edge does. And every trade prints to the public ticker, so the market has a heartbeat: @blanchy BOUGHT RICE @ 84 MEDALS.

How we're running it

  • Right now: the Exchange is live on sportsblock.app in private testing — the SportsBlock admins are going to be trading real MEDALS on a full 841-player market to shake out every edge case. You can see the locked tile on the Contests page today.
  • Launch: before Gameweek 1 of the 26/27 Premier League season (mid-August). Prices for every player will be set from real prior-season data before the first deadline.
  • The machine runs itself. Deadlines, live points and repricing come straight from official data, automatically, all season. Prices reprice after the final match of each round (with a grace period for bonus-point confirmation).
  • Launch settings: 5% spread, pricing multiplier ×10. We'll publish any tuning changes before they take effect — never mid-round.
  • Solvency, on-chain: deposits live at @sp-exchange where anyone can count them. We run automated daily reconciliation between the ledger, user balances and the chain.
  • End of season: final positions are sold back at the last prices and every wallet becomes withdrawable cash. Full details before the run-in.

What you'll need

  • A Hive account (sign in with Keychain or HiveSigner — or join free at sportsblock.app and we'll set one up for you)
  • MEDALS — earn them by posting and predicting on SportsBlock, or pick them up on Hive Engine

Real tokens, real risk, real reward — trade with what you can afford, 18+.

The market opens for GW1. The teaser is already on the board.

You've watched football your whole life. You know who's about to hit form before the pundits do. For once, that knowledge has a price attached.

Feedback from the July Hive Power Up Day
Hive Power Up Month Challenge - June 2026 Winners List
Be ready for the July edition of the Hive Power Up Month!

Sounds interesting... can I just confirm my understanding...

  1. once I've bought a player, I can hold him for as long as I like until I decide to sell?
  2. I can only ever hold a maximum of 11 players based upon the formation mentioned above?
  3. There's no limit on how many people can join - so if there are 80 players, then you've just got to be the quickest.
  4. Sales are made back to "the market" so a sale is guaranteed - rather than waiting for another player to buy at the required price?
  5. What happens if a player's Loaned out or leaves the Premier League on a permanent transfer?
  6. No limit to how many players you can buy from each team (other than the obvious 11 limit)?

Sorry if you covered any of these already!

Great questions — you've mostly got it. Point by point:

  1. Hold as long as you like? ✅ Yes. Once he's yours, he's yours until you sell — hold him a week or the whole season. Holdings ride through locked rounds untouched. (At season's end, remaining squads are sold back at the final prices and your wallet becomes withdrawable cash — nothing gets stranded.)

  2. Max 11 in formation? ✅ Yes — the caps are 1 GK / 3 DEF / 4 MID / 3 FWD, so 11 max, and only one copy of any player. You don't have to be full though — hold 3 players and a pile of cash if that's your read.

  3. "You've just got to be the quickest" ❌ — happy to correct this one, because it matters: there's no scarcity and no race. You're not competing with other users for a limited supply of Haalands. Everyone buys from the house at the same quoted price, so 80 users — or 8,000 — can all own Haaland at once. And prices are frozen for the whole trading window (they only change when the round completes), so buying Monday morning costs exactly the same as buying 10 seconds before the deadline. You're racing the reprice, not each other. The skill is reading form, not clicking fast.

  4. Sales guaranteed? ✅ Yes. You always sell back to the market at the quoted sell price, instantly — no order book, no waiting for another user to want your player at your price. The house is the counterparty on every trade, both directions.

  5. Loaned out or leaves the Premier League? He gets delisted: his price freezes at its last value and he becomes sell-only. You can cash out at that frozen price whenever you like — you're never trapped holding a ghost, and you never get force-sold. (A player who stays in the PL but stops playing is different: missed matches don't count as zeroes, so his price holds on his last four actual appearances and drifts only when he plays again — which is exactly why buying a returning player before his comeback match is one of the sharpest trades in the game.)

  6. Per-team limits? None. If you want your entire XI to be one club's first team, the market won't stop you — only the position caps and one-copy rule apply. Whether eleven players from a single team is a diversified portfolio is between you and your leaderboard position. 😄

@talesfrmthecrypt if you have anything that contradicts my read then feel free to come in

Cool, thanks @blanchy (and @talesfrmthecrypt).

This part made me think of another question...

A player who stays in the PL but stops playing is different: missed matches don't count as zeroes

I assume that sub appearances count... so a player who comes off the bench and scores 1 point (or comes off the bench, gets booked and scores 0) contributes towards the last 4 appearances. i.e. we're not looking at just "last 4 starts".

Yes that's right. Any appearance counts towards the average score so it's the average score of the last 4 appearances (whether starts or not)

All good!

On point 3 @blockchainfpl, we did consider unique ownership but felt that starting this way was probably easier to implement and for the community to understand. You’re right though, if we were to bring in unique ownership, we’d need to limit the numbers playing in any single league

Thanks - that makes sense. If we went down the "single ownership route, you'd probably need to implement something like the La Liga game where you can "make offers" or "force transfer" between teams - a nice level of complexity to think about 😆
