Escobar: DaNang's latest high-end beachfront establishment

in #travel3 years ago

Some would probably argue and I think with good reason, that now is a terrible time to be opening a place of this magnitude but they did it anyway. I think that for someone that has money already, and it appears as though the investors behind this establishment have exactly that, now might have been a very advantageous time to acquire this real-estate, which is likely some of the most expensive in the city.

This is owned by the same people that brought us "Cobibar" which has fallen out of fashion as of late and it is rumored will be closed down soon. This building that they have acquired for Escobar is clearly not rented by them since they basically tore the place down and started over. I don't have any idea how much was spent but it was a lot.

Overall it is a place where you feel like you are somewhere fancy but you will also be paying "fancy" prices for everything that you receive.

To put things into perspective a beer in Escobar costs 75,000 VND and if you are to go to just about any other bar that isn't in this block of businesses along the beach the same beer will cost you 20-25,000. The price of all their food items reflect this dramatic increase in price based on location.

Burgers are available in dozens of places all throughout town and to be honest, most of them are not very good. 240k VND is more than $10 US so this could definitely be considered a high-end establishment. Unfortunately, the taste of the food isn't particularly special.

I ordered the eggplant burger only because it is something that I have not seen on a menu anywhere else and well, it was very bland but I don't suppose I can blame that on the establishment. I am not a vegan / vegetarian so I dug this hole, now I have to lie in it.

The food was just OK.

The same can be said for the spaghetti bolognaise. The portion size was good, the presentation was great, it came with a bunch of bread that was apparently unlimited but the cost of the dish was more than double what you would pay anywhere else. Again, I understand that this is because of the location and the amount of money that they no doubt invested in such a nicely decorated establishment.

The primary feature of this place is their outdoor seating of course and even though the sea looks like crap lately because of the time of year you'll just have to imagine what it could look like if it was summertime. They did open this time of year on purpose in order to get the work done before the masses start turning up in the summer for a reason.

So as it stands now I think Escobar is and likely always will be. It certainly is a nice establishment and you do feel like you are being treated like a VIP the entire time you are there. However, just like anywhere else in the world that is a bit nicer, this comes at a price. You will spend 2-4 times as much in this place than you would at a wide-variety of places that are just a few blocks away.

I came to this place some days ago and found the same thoughts. Well, some people are willing to fancy themselves. Let's meet 😻 pls text me via insta:hongduong@141

They have a grand opening soonish. I will not be attending. I think a night out there would cost me about what I spend in a week on food and drink total! I don't use IG
