Hello dear Hive members. I am again on the bulgarian Black Sea and i enjoying the summer with my girlfriend. Today i will show you one unique place i visit for first time in my life.
About 6 km northeast of Cape Kaliakra is a beautiful and unique natural place - Bird Bay (Tur. Taukliman), beautiful with its small beaches and terraced slopes, with plenty of warm mineral water and many rocky islands scattered along the coast. Taukliman is surrounded by a plateau rising 70m above sea level. Especially beautiful are the caves located in its high hour - the Great Maara; The dark hole (the longest, 170m); The Aragonite Cave (richly decorated with beautiful aragonite crystals) and the Needle Ear Cave (with red-colored synth formations). Between the terraces of the slopes are scattered small caves, which are a refuge for rare species of birds and reptiles listed in the Red Book of Bulgaria.
The area is a real bird paradise on the migratory route of birds, Via Pontica. Every spring, flocks of thousands of seagulls, geese, terns, rainforests and other birds stop in the Gulf to rest before continuing north to the Eastern European Plain, to Central and Northern Europe. In the autumn they rest here again before continuing south to the Nile Delta.
Apart from nature, Taukliman is also known for its archeological finds. According to research, the rock caves were inhabited by Thracians, Greeks, Romans and Slavs, and most likely served as sanctuaries. Remains of ancient medieval settlements, parts of a late antique fortification, a Byzantine fortress from the 5th century and interesting round stone structures used for wine production have been found in the area.
Northeast of Cape Kaliakra, near the town of Kavarna. The area is accessible by car to the entrance of the Holiday Village "Rusalka". Access to the bay itself is limited.
