The Campervan is almost finished: The results of months hard work

in #travelfeed3 years ago (edited)

A while ago I wrote a post about the conversation of my van to a campervan. I promised an update so here it is! Too bad it is not finished yet but I can only say that I am proud. It is getting shape and it is Holiday ready! Time to drive to Italy! But this post is not gonna be a holiday post. It is all about the van!

The Kitchen
The kitchen was also an important part. I wanted to have enough space to cook comfortably, and a big fridge with a freezer inside. I love yoghurts with frozen fruits and freezing in delicious leftovers of the delicious meals my Chef boyfriend cooks for me (Yes I did a good job. Get yourself a chef girls!)

"IMG_20211130_101154-01.jpeg" What's the most important part of the van? The fridge of course!

And well, without a good stove my boyfriend does not cook for me, so a good stove it is, the only problem is that I did not convert it yet to the right type of gas. Did you know you need for different types of gas different gas hogs? Well, building a van teaches you a shitload of small stuff, which can mean the difference between a delicious Risotto and no food at all 😋

"IMG_20211130_101029-01.jpeg" We bought a good stove to keep this chef smiling.

Electrical System
And no electricity no fridge. I did the electrical system all by myself too! I was really scared but it is good to be scared for electricity. It took me a long time before I dared to start this part of the project but it paid off well. Only the solar panels are not connected yet, but the lights are working and we can charge our devices. And the best part for me: I know exactly how everything is connected. What if we get some troubles with this set up when we go to Afrika in a couple of years? Well, I can fix it myself.

"Screenshot_20211215_221828_com.snapchat.android.jpg" The snapchat I send to my family and friends. It says one last time that I love them(In case it went allll wrong) it is Dutch by the way :)

The Bathroom
The toilet is already usable (but not properly installed). It is a Airhead composting toilet. That means that there is no flush. There are two compartments, number one and number two 💩. It is a pretty common system in offgrid houses, but pretty strange if you have never heard about it, so let me explain it to you.
Under the toiletseat is a container at the back for shit, and a large bottle at the front for urine. It seperates from each other to prevent smells. You have to put something to compost the shit with in the container, coconut fiber with a little water to moisture it. When you leave your present in the toilet, you turn the crank handle at the side to mix the poop with the compost.

The toilet is not yet connected, so we only used it to pee. There is a build in ventilator that blows the air through a hose through a hole in the floor. After fully installing it we can be sure of no bad smells and fully use the toilet. The pee has to be emptied pretty often but can be done anywhere. The poop part has to be emptied every 3 a 4 weeks if it is used by two people. Well, enough toilet talk I guess. I hope I did not scare you away.

"IMG_20211130_100924-01.jpeg" The bathroom waterproofened with epoxy. It desperately needs an other painting job

The bed
And of course, the bed! I must say that I am exceptionally happy with this bed. It is comfortable, with its 140 x 198 (cm) big enough for us and it can shift in to make it 90x198. There are two seats and a little table hidden underneath, for rainy days. The space will be perfectly used when I use the van alone, since I can make the bed for one person and ditch the second matras at my parents home. This is especially perfect since my boyfriend works season work in Austria and will not be with me for a large part of the time.

I hope you enjoyed reading my post and I am really curious what you think about the van! Leave a comment below! Thanks for passing by!

Sascha
