Honestly, even though Trump is, as far as I can tell, a shitty human being, husband, businessman, etc...
His first term wasn't as damaging to the country as the first term of Obama, Bush, or Clinton. Damning with faint praise, I know.
Maybe that's because he simply wasn't competent enough to do all of what he wanted to and our institutions were strong enough to prevent him (or he just lost interest in some bad ideas), but the result is the same.
He did awful things on immigration and trade policy, said shitty troll things on the internet, and didn't end the Obama/Bush wars, but... If you're comparing him to modern Presidents, he wasn't even close to the worst. It's simply that all modern Presidents are awful, and we sometimes forget once they've been out of office for a tad.
