Snap bean Blue Lake or Blauhilde

in #veggies4 years ago

Garden hivers,

Let's frist show you the subject of todays post in a picture made on the veggie garden I work in:

Although my English is pretty good I always have problems when I must translate veggie names. You do not learn that in daily life. For example this purple bean on the picture we call in Dutch "stokspekboon Bluehilde" or in popular language "Toverboon meaning Magic bean". But stokspekboon tranalstes as stickbaconbean....the correct English is Snap bean pole variety Bluelake(??) ....or just call them magicbeans

The magic is that this bean turns green when you cook it. It is a simple chemical process not described here further.

The bean is harvested when it is 25 centimeters long and the beans inside are visible. A handfull then weighs 300 gramm enough for two persons. It is sold out within half an hour on our market just like all beans in summer.

Enjoy
