The influence of whales will be decreased and diluted over time resulting in minnows voting power having more influence on earnings on the Steemit platform. Many of these large holders of Steem Power are powering down and cashing out due to life changing amounts of wealth they have acquired caused by the dramatic price increase of Steem.
Right now the vast majority of users on the platform are minnows and hold very little weight when it comes to rewards since they have only been using the platform and acquiring SP for a very short time and hold very little. As time goes by their holdings will increase, modestly and slowly at first mind you but increase never the less while the whales will likely continue to liquidate their SP.

In the coming weeks and months these statistics will change resulting in a more even distribution of voting power eventually reaching some kind of equilibrium. Keep an eye on those stats and recognize how the % of stake is increasing daily for the lower level user groups (dust, newbie, user, superuser).
For Steemit to succeed this simply must happen and I believe it will, if it won't no one will remember what Steemit was 3 years from now.

Its bound to happen, it must happen for Steemit to survive. Its such a new platform that inequality is prevalent but the early adopters should be rewarded for investing time and money in making it a success. While it does seem unfair I believe in the end things will work out.
