Instructions
1- Prepare the Pickling Liquid:
- In a generic stainless steel small saucepan, combine vinegar, water, and sugar.
- Heat on the stove, stirring until sugar fully dissolves.
- Cool the liquid completely before use, optionally chilling in the refrigerator.
2- Vegetable Preparation:
- For the Leek & Dill: Chop dill and slice leek, then place in a white plastic storage container.
- For the Carrot & Red Onion: Slice carrot and red onion, then place in a second container.
3- Herring Preparation:
- Use paper towels to pat dry the salted herring fillets.
- Slice each fillet into 1 cm pieces and distribute into their respective containers with prepared vegetables.
4- Allspice Addition:
- Add whole allspice corns to the leek and dill mixture.
