The Growing Effort to Decriminalize Cannabis in the U.S.

Thousands of people are currently spending time behind bars for non-violent 'crimes' related to marijuana. Recently, U.S. lawmakers in the House decided to pass a bill that would decriminalize cannabis. But it isn't over yet as the Senate is going to present another obstacle before things can move forward.

Just in the last few weeks there have been several new states that have made changes in moving forward with legalization for medicinal or recreational purposes. An overwhelming majority of Americans seem to be in favor of legalization or some sort of decriminalization, overall they want to see the drug war against cannabis come to a stop.

As those regions decriminalize they also have the chance to change past mistakes that they made when putting people behind bars over this plant. They can expunge those records and give those cannabis growers, patients, and other cannabis users etc, a chance at a new life.

There could be a bright future ahead for cannabis markets around the U.S. as a federal effort is ongoing to either decriminalize or legalize and establish a new standard, removing cannabis from the Controlled Substances Act where it never should have been placed.

Already, with the states that have established legal cannabis markets in different regions like Colorado, Oregon, and Washington, it has helped to grow into an industry that is bringing in hundreds of millions of dollars annually. This is an industry that has massive potential and one that could help to bring thousands of jobs to the market as well.
