Splinterlands | 6-Year Anniversary, Why I'm still Here !

in Splinterlands12 days ago

This week, Splinterlands has turned 6-years-old. As someone who has been around for 5+ years, these are the reasons I'm sticking around even during these bad times...

My Player Profile!

I'm someone who loves playing games especially ones that are easy to get into and hard to master which thousands of hours get be put into while at the same time I see them as a total waste of time. This is one of the things that attracted me to Spinterlands as a former Hearthstone player as there is a possibility to see the hours (and money) put into it potentially lead to some earnings when playing it smart. So earnings for me are a motivation and a vital reason why I play Splinterlands. This doesn't need to be instant earnings but at least there need to be an outlook to do well over time in case more players would flood into the ecosystem. I actually managed to do well with the game as I got in very early while the Beta Cards were the main set. This made me experience the entire crazy adoption wave explosion and I also managed to get many new players into the game during that time which helped me to generate funds to re-invest and grow.

I have 3 accounts (Main Account / Gold Alt Account / Rental Account)

I didn't nearly take as much profit as I should have during the boom and the printing combined with a decrease of players and the move of value from cards to SPS really hurt my collection value like crazy seeing it go down week after week which is my main frustration with the game. However, I don't believe leaving now when everything is down like crazy is an option.

Reasons I keep Playing...

  1. Bad Time to Exit: Generally you want to sell when everything is going great and buy while everything is looking bad. Right now, the sentiment has been the worse since very long and I do remember from way back when this also was the case that I regretted not buying more. I do think SPS is very cheap right now so I continue to accumulate. However, I am looking to exit and move on from the game the moment the sentiment has shifted which I still believe at some point will happen.

  2. Sunken Cost Fallacy: I'm fully in the clear when it comes down to money that I put into the game even if everything goes down to zero. However, the time that I put into it in total playing a bit daily now for many year adds up and I consider that my sunken cost which I don't want to go to waste. I still keep hoping better times will come at some points even though things don't really look that good right now.

  3. The Potential Of The Game: I still like Splinterlands as a game and enjoy playing even though way too often it feels like an obligation I rather skip. At times I really do want to play and have the time and focus, I still enjoy the experience. And this wile the current game modes and 'pay2win' dynamics barely scratch the surface of how good this game actually could be.

  4. Blogging Earnings: I love Hive and having my blog here. The 2 weekly Splinterlands challenges of the Social Media and the Battle Mage Secret always are by far the best earning posts I have which actually earn more compared to playing the actual game. This curation honestly is a big reason that keeps me in the Splinterlands Ecosystem and if that would also fall away it probably would be the drop in earnings too much no longer making it worth it.

  5. Brawls, Guild & Community: I really love the Community in this game and managed to make many friend. The Brawls are one of the most fun part of the game and I don't really want to let down the Guild that I'm in as it's hard enough to get all spots filled as it is right now.

  1. Hopium: Having fully experienced the previous boom in Splinterlands where all assets literally exploded up, I'm stuck in a mode where I'm still hoping this could happen again even though the facts right now show no indication whatsoever. If is for sure something that keeps me grinding and hoping though.

Conclusion!

I've been in Splinterlands for 5+ Years and still enjoy it in a certain ways having multiple reasons to stay around. However, I will be looking at some point to exist and move on the moment things recover. In the end, the time investment is just too much and my priorities eventually will shift away from it. For now though I keep grinding the game day by day.

Great overview and cool to see you made it in during the beta cards. I also have lots of hopium that we will see Splinterlands rise again!

That's a nice milestone reached; congratulations!

I remember being gifted some of the very earliest "Steemmonsters" packs, and just hung onto them for a while. I'm not an active player, but I do hold a small stake just because I believe it's one of the best "free standing" dApps to have been created out of Hive (and its predecessor) and I'm not planning to sell.

And maybe good times will roll around, again!

=^..^=

let's hope the game manages to get out of the death spiral and have some good times again.

Greetings,
How are you doing?
Happy anniversary. Congratulations on your achievements.
Do you have a preference between renting or buying SPS?
Have a great end of season in Splinterlands

I still like SPS long term and think it's a good buy at the current price. So for me I would buy it over renting it.

Thank you
