On this blog, I want to share my experience of playing Harvestella. I was scrolling through the e-shop to look for games for single-player games. I stumbled upon this game called Harvestella.
Right on the spot, I know this one was created by Square Enix just by the looks and art style of the game. Wow, the price of this game is almost $70. 😳 Of course, as a poor gamer, I have to think bazillion times if it is worth buying, and also if I can commit to this game, or else it will be just a waste of money.
Happily, I downloaded the demo version. I think it is a smart way to test and see the features, graphics, and interfaces before buying the actual, full game. After playing, I might have a clearer decision whether to buy it.
The opening of the game is set in a countryside enveloped in a dark atmosphere. A girl appeared out of nowhere as a guide. Here, the character lost her memory and was tasked to look for the town’s doctor.
As someone who grew up playing farming simulation games, I find this triggering of childhood. Aside from farming, the character can fight monsters, and has the option of switching "jobs". For example, from fighter to mage. Fighting monsters will increase the level and become handy for the succeeding storyline and leveling up.
In terms of the game’s art style, I would say, it feels like the Moe-type anime. Vibrant colors and a happy environment. Visually, the graphics are superb- detailed NPCs, environments, and animation. What is annoying is that I can’t jump from a cliff or hurdle a fence, hehe.😆 There are still limitations on the character’s navigation.
An abandoned house was provided as a shelter for the character. Here, the character can grow her veggies, farm animals, craft materials, and fish.
I have to be patient with the daily watering of crops for now. 😅
To earn Grilla (currency) from farming, simply water the plants every day and harvest when ready. Put the produce in the shipping box and will be sold the next day. Seeds can be bought at the general store, in drops, or even in the mail. Strategize your farming for optimized yield.
Currently, this is the World Map of the game on 2nd day. An overview of what region is already opened. Here, the player can somewhat teleport from place to place but the clock will run faster compared to normal walking.
Later on, green, glowing portals on the side of the streets will be activated while the storyline progresses. It serves as fast travel from home to any point and vice versa. It also serves as a saving point of the game.
Opening the canyon on the North part, I encountered an NPC. Here, an NPC can be part of the party to fight monsters alongside the player as a support on combats. The NPCs are also leveling up through weapon upgrades, up exp, and skill acquisitions.
Leveling up involves a lot of activities such as farming, completing tasks, upgrading weapons, etc. What I noticed is that, start growing your crops as soon as possible. The player can sell the crops or use them for consumption (HP regain). Next, Upgrade tools to increase efficiency and lessen the work time. A crafting station is provided, but recipes and materials are needed. I got a routine by Day 4, I just got used to it.
For player’s attack and defense, focus on weapon upgrades and exp gains. When fighting monsters, focus on their movement. You will notice that it is repetitive so you will know your next hit move.
I am still indecisive about buying the game. I am considering the commitment and value of money. I don’t know if it is just a hype for now and then later on, forget to play. What a waste… I found a pre-loved for sale but only includes the cartridge. For now, maybe I will just wait for discounts or when this game will go on sale.

I had not seen this game, I really like the idea of combining an anime RPG with elements of farms and farming, as you say visually looks amazing and the truth the dialogue scenes reminded me a lot of GranBlue style although the way to travel the map also has some similarity to the Final Fantasy titles haha.
The truth looks great and I'm curious about how the controls will be in combat and how much you can get to improve to level up both in crops and in battles although it is also true that I think a little high price but if it is a great game will certainly be worth every penny :D
