3MTT Rivers State Meetup

I've been coding since 2016 but my career in tech fully began in 2021 when I fell in love with data and the prospects it has in solving real world problems. Then I hungered for more. Out of curiosity, I started searching online for materials and information. Luckily, I came across a scholarship opportunity with Udacity for a Nano-degree programme in Data Analysis. I applied for it and in a few months time, I saw a congratulatory email in my inbox that I was selected for the scholarship. That was the genesis of my tech journey. The course took six months and I finally concluded in 2022 with a capstone project which has been my first project showcase in my portfolio.

I engaged in several other projects on Data Analysis both individually and as a group. I really wanted to know more, so I took part in several bootcamps and internships to build my portfolio and also gather work experience.

Sometime last year, the Federal Government of Nigeria under the administration of His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, initiated some projects across the nation. One of the pioneer projects in favour of the Nigerian youths was the 3MTT project with the vision to train 3 Million Tech Talents across the nation. This project commenced in the fourth quarter of last year and the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy under the leadership of Honourable Minister (Dr.) Bosun Tijani, was delegated to see to the smooth running of the project.

The portal was launched and interested youths were encouraged to register to be trained on tech for free. People do say, "the day you stop learning, you start dying". My passion for data and my zeal to learn couldn't allow me to fold my hands and watch this life changing opportunity pass me by. Just like every other interested youths, I also registered and chose the Data Science track and as a lucky child, I was also selected for the programme.

It has been a wonderful experience during the six month training period. I started with the virtual (online) training which was handled in partnership with Altschool Africa. After three months of online training, I was assigned to Quantum Business School as my facilitator for another three months of practical in-class training. I'm glad I concluded the training and also did a capstone project to cement what I have learnt.

On completion of the training, I was offered an internship opportunity with the Universal Service Provision Fund. It has really been amazing thus far.

Yesterday was the 3MTT Rivers State Meetup. Youths resident in Rivers State gathered at the Amphitheatre Hall, Rivers State University, Port Harcourt, Nigeria. In the course of the training, I didn't only learn how to be a high achiever in tech, crafting an attractive tech portfolio but I was also able to network with my peers and also experts and gurus who are thriving in the tech industry. I met the likes of Samuel George (Software Engineer & Founder, Definity Solutions Ltd). Samuel leads a team of highly passionate and self-driven individuals at Definity Solutions where he trains, builds, and maintains scalable software for business owners to help them drive productivity and ensure a lasting presence in the digital space. I also learnt how to navigate challenges to achieve success in tech.

The 3MTT Rivers State Meetup is an event I will love to attend some other time. It's fantastic. Thanks to Miss Joy (Community Manager for 3MTT Rivers State) for putting up such an event.
