The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Officials or Youth Council of barangay Daantabogon, Tabogon, Cebu conducted a Leadership Training and Seminar to all aspiring leaders in our school last May 05, 2024,Sunday.

Due to their hectic schedule, they ask permission to our school if they can have the training and seminar on the said date because that is the only spare time that they have. The elected SK Officials of the barangay are still studying in college and they have a class from Monday to Saturday. They are our speakers for the Leadership Training.

The participants of the Leadership Trainings are the Supreme Student Leader Government (SSLG) Officers, Barkada Kontra Droga (BKD) Officers, the Officers and members of Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O), and the students who are candidates for the upcoming SSLG Election in our school for school year 2024 to 2025.

The learners also bring a Parents' Consent as a proof that their parents allow them to attend and come to school for the youth activity. The Teacher Adviser of the different Youth Organizations who joined the Leadership Training and Seminar are required to be present and I am one of them.

Before writing and publishing the blog, I also ask permission from the SSLG Adviser if I could write a blog about the activity. She said "yes" as long as I will not focus the camera on the face of the learners.

The Topics on the Leadership Training and Seminar are the following:
1.) Discovering the Skills of a Leader
2.) Developing the Skills of Leadership
3.) Enhancing Personal Growth
4.) Leading by Example
5.) Empowering Others
6.) Building Resilience
7.) Making a Positive Impact

The first speaker is a graduating student at Cebu Technological University Daanbantayan Extension (CTU Tabogon) studying Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd). He had a very strong personality and has a good communication skill. He asks the learners this questions as his motivation,
What is a Leader? What are the Potentials of a Leader? What is the difference between a Leader and a Good Leader? Are they the same? What are the qualities of an effective leader?

The learners shared different opinions about the questions given to them. Somebody say that a leader is also a good follower, while others say that a Leader is not afraid of taking the challenges and responsibilities given to him or her.

The speaker encourages all the participants not to get scared of sharing their ideas to the group because they do not focus on wrong or right ideas. They gathered in order to speak, to share, and help each other grow holistically.

The other speaker also shared an insight to everybody on what to do in order to be an effective leader...
Practice and putting yourself up to here if you want to be an effective leader (the speaker is pointing his finger on his shoes while saying the phrase). You have to wear the shoes of everybody so you can understand and able to cater the needs, and if you want to be an effective leader, you have to be teachable. You must be a good listener and accept suggestions and recommendations.

After the sharing of ideas between the speaker and the participants about the qualities of an effective leader, the next speaker proceeds to the next topic which is developing the skills of leadership.

An Effective Leader should have the following skills:
A. Communication Skills
B. Decision-Making Skills
B. Critical Thinking Skills
C. Teamwork
D. Problem-Solving Skills

Then, the third speaker tackled about Embracing Personal Growth. He said that you have to step out from your comfort zone in order to grow personally and professionally. You have to seek new experiences. Then, he ask this question, What is the difference between Listening and Actively Listening?

According to the speaker,

Listening is when you hear the voice of your people, but there is no actions taken by you, while Actively Listening is when there is empathy and actions after hearing them.

She highlighted that a leader should know the following: Integrity, Authenticity, Ethical Behavior, and being a Positive Role Model.

According to her, our principles should be aligned with our actions, and a leader should know how to balance the actions and the decisions.

The last speaker is the SK Chairman of the barangay. She is so cutie and smarty. She is a student at Cebu Normal University Main Campus studying Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (PolSci). She explained the three last topics: Empowering others, Building Resilience, and Making a Positive Impact.

According to the last speaker, a leader trust, it is open minded, appreciate and believe the good abilities and capabilities of the members.

She also added that self awareness and influencing other people to do well is by doing good. It is the best ways in building resilience. A leader admits his or her mistakes and recognizes what he or she does not know. A leader is just human like everybody else, he or she does not have knowledge for everything, so he or she must listen, accept, and balance the suggested ideas or opinions of the members of the team.

As a YES-O Adviser, I truly agree on the ideas of the speakers. I admit, I, myself do not know everything. I also have my own weaknesses, and I am still continually learning.

I would like to end my blog with Jim Rohn's well-known quote,

“The challenge of leadership is to be strong, but not rude; be kind, but not weak; be bold, but not bully; be thoughtful, but not lazy; be humble, but not timid; be proud, but not arrogant; have humor, but without folly.”

Thank you so much for reading my blog. Please upvote and reblog. I could not have done anything without your help and support. Thank you really for having my back.
