W dni tak słoneczne i ciepłe jak było wczoraj, ciągnie człowieka nad morze, w najgorszym przypadku w jego pobliże. Belgia dysponuje również dostępem do morza, ale w słoneczne dni można odnieść wrażenie, że wszyscy mieszkańcy tego kraju odczuwają potrzebę, żeby to sprawdzić na własne oczy. Dlatego wybraliśmy wybrzeże Morza Północnego po Holenderskiej stronie granicy.
[ENG] On a sunny and warm day like yesterday, you are drawn to the sea, or at the very least to its vicinity. Belgium also has access to the sea, but on sunny days you get the impression that everyone in the country feels the need to see it for themselves. So we chose the North Sea coast on the Dutch side of the border.
Sluis
W pierwszych krokach skierowaliśmy się do Sluis, urokliwego miasteczka położonego w zachodniej części Zelandii-Flandrii, nieopodal granicy z Belgią. Miasteczko zachwyca nie tylko koneserów konsumpcjonizmu, centrum miasta zdominowane jest przez niezliczone ilości sklepów, restauracji i barów. Sluis jest wśród pięciu najchętniej wybieranych miejsc, jeżeli chodzi o zakupy w Zelandii. Ma to pewien urok, ale nie zakupy były celem naszej wyprawy.
[ENG] Our first stop was Sluis, a charming town in the western part of Zeeland Flanders, close to the Belgian border. Sluis is not only a town of shopping enthusiasts; the town centre is full of shops, restaurants and bars. Sluis is one of the top five most popular shopping destinations in Zeeland. This has a certain charm, but shopping was not the purpose of our trip.
Spacerując po uliczkach Sluis zobaczyliśmy okazały budynek kościoła. Zwykle odwiedzamy tego typu miejsca. Trochę nas zdziwiło, że wszystkie drzwi były zamknięte, w nadziei, że może boczne drzwi będą otwarte, odkryliśmy, że ten budynek nie jest już świątynią. Kilka lat temu "dom Boży" został zamieniony na apartamenty mieszkalne dla kilku rodzin.
[ENG] As we walked through the streets of Sluis, we saw a stately church building. We usually visit places like that. We were a little surprised to find all the doors closed, hoping that the side doors might be open, we discovered that this building was no longer a church. A few years ago the 'house of God' was converted into flats for several families.
Warto wspomnieć o innej ciekawostce związanej ze Sluis, znajdująca się tam XIV-wieczna Belfry (dzwonnica) jest jedyną w Holandii. Średniowieczna dzwonnica służyła do informowania mieszkańców o ważnych wydarzeniach, takich jak pożar, zbliżenie się wrogich wojsk czy proklamacja prawa. Obecnie dźwięk melodii wygrywanych na dzwonach przypomina przede wszystkim o mającym szybko czasie.
[ENG] Another Sluis-related curiosity is the 14th century belfry, the only one of its kind in the Netherlands. The medieval belfry was used to inform the inhabitants of important events, such as a fire, the approach of enemy troops or the proclamation of a law. Nowadays, the sound of the bells is mainly a reminder of the fast approaching time.
Ogromną zaletą Sluis jest bliskość terenów zielonych, miasteczko jest doskonale połączone z innymi miastami nie tylko drogami, ale też kanałami i ścieżkami rowerowymi. Rowery można wypożyczyć na miejscu za niewielką opłatą, również te wodne.
[ENG] A great advantage of Sluis is its proximity to green areas; the town is perfectly connected to other towns not only by road, but also by canals and cycle paths. Bikes can be hired locally for a small fee, including water bikes.
Miasto w średniowieczu było fortecą na pograniczu, pozostałości murów obronnych można zobaczyć, spacerując ścieżkami wokół miasteczka. Taki spacer w ciszy i bliskości z naturą jest doskonałą alternatywą po spędzeniu dłuższego czasu na zatłoczonych uliczkach Sluis.
[ENG] The town was a border fortress in the Middle Ages and you can see the remains of the ramparts by walking along the paths around the town. Such a walk in silence and close to nature is an excellent alternative to the crowded streets of Sluis.
Cadzand-Bad
Popołudnie spędziliśmy spacerując po Cadzand-Bad, nadmorskim kurorcie położonym w pobliżu granicy z Belgią. Plaża w Cadzand-Bad jest jedną z najszerszych w Holandii, bardzo popularne miejsce, o czym mogliśmy się przekonać wczoraj. Wielu ludzi korzystało ze słonecznej pogody, a co niektórzy odważyli się nawet na kąpiel w morzu. Wzdłuż plaży poprowadzona jest bardzo dobra ścieżka pieszo-rowerowa, żałowałem, że nie wziąłem swojego roweru.
[ENG] We spent the afternoon walking around Cadzand-Bad, a seaside resort near the Belgian border. The beach in Cadzand-Bad is one of the widest in the Netherlands, a very popular place as we could see yesterday. Many people took advantage of the sunny weather and some even ventured into the sea for a swim. There is a very good walking and cycling path along the beach, I regretted not taking my bike.
