Cobra Greenhood new season : May 10 2024

in Actifit12 days ago

With a forecast of lots of rain from late morning, dragged the body out earlier than normal - quick breakfast and drove up to Beach Road access to Seven Mile Beach NP. Did not even have coffee

A few native violets flowering - the mission is autumn orchids and as it has been wet there will be mushrooms

Growing on a tree

Greenhood rosette a little closer into the track than I have seen. It is going to be a bumper season

Mini mushrooms - the domed one is the size of a US penny. With the glossy tops, they are hard to photograph

Mosquito orchid leaves - there will be a lot of flowers this season too

Fungus formed on a tree stump. Easy to visualise rotating it to create a map of Australia

Mushroom the size of a saucer - 2nd type and 3rd seen - 1st photo was not in focus enough

Big enough to get underneath

Got a feeling these are ghost mushrooms - they glow - and they are edible

First flowering orchid of the day - pixie caps orchid - acianthus fornicatus

5th type of mushroom

A colony of 6th mushroom at the foot of a tree

First time able to get low enough to get a photo of the pixie caps orchid with its column - the yellow splash

Not expert enough to say this is different to one of the last two white mushrooms. It does look like it has come up more of a cone than the others - the symmetrical shape is special

Underside

Do know this is different. Top is the size of a US penny. The red is intense and the glossiness makes for hard camera work

Central colour and external ribbing suggests this is different to the previous ghost orchids

A coral fungal form

Did find the first of these for the season - leaves on the spike tell me it is a cobra greenhood. Cannot recall seeing them here before. Not fully open.

This mushroom is one we have seen before on the walk. The insect - a fly of some type - is new

Walked up to a fall down tree a little off the track - these twin mushrooms have great colour and arched backs

This one looks like a beach parasol. Took a while to adjust settings to get the hood of the mushroom looking OK. The camera does like to grab the light reflecting off the top

Keeping with the theme of adjusting mushroom photos - this one was like that too without being wet on top

These did - the photos I took from the top from both sides of the tree did not work. The underside was the only one worth saving - there is stuff in focus.

Crossed to the track on the other side of the car park

Helmet orchid budding - spurred helmet orchid - no spurs showing

Dud find a cobra greenhood - side on photos were poor in low light - top down shows a bit why it us called a cobra orchid - the arched back, the hood and the colour

The next mushroom type

Berry ready just down the road from the town of Berry

Next mushroom type - brown - looks like one of those puffy ones

Spurs just showing - corysanthes aconitiflorus

Greenhood rosette - the length of the stalk suggests nodding greenhood - no buds found

Found a nice colony of cobra greenhoods - two in frame

Side on photo of pterostylis grandiflora showing the labellum

When I got home, I found that Alan Stephenson who wrote the guide book I use down here passed away today - aged 80. This photo is dedicated to his memory. You see - my first ever orchid walk in the Blue Mountains was with him and a mutual friend. A lot of what I know I learned from him that day. In 3 hours he showed me exactly what to look for. RIP Alan.

A little more side on

Could not get low enough to catch the tip of the labellum

Greenhood rosettes - a known spot for blunt greenhoods - maybe 100 plants now - last year - 50

Walked to the dead sector and turned back - pink mushroom

Nodding greenhood rosettes

Copper top mushroom - got to have reached 10 types today again

Fungal slime form on a tree - fun textures

More ghost mushrooms. Best part is I got the steps in place without rain. Found a new season orchid fully open. And the one leech on my boots did not get anywhere

Did strim the lawns ahead of the rain

Spent the afternoon working on new internet marketing ideas. Created a new bonus report on storytelling for email marketing. First few steps were easy. Making a video course was a little harder.

Script: easy
Slides: easy
Edit slide sizes: easy.
AI voice easy on Pictory.AI free - but they allow 3 videos and I need 5. Tried a tool I have previously bought - Wave.video. it created scenes fine. It generated a voice over fine. BUT it chopped the voice track up and could not sync with slides. Spent too king wrestling - tricky product to use with crap help system. Waste of the afternoon.

Dinner: Turned Thai Crab Fried rice into Malaysian version - yep fry an egg and break that over the rice. Then add some chilli sauce.

Awake late for markets open. Bought NXE.TO. Adjusted GCI. Sold puts on CCJ, CDE, PAAS, SLV

We have hade 17 inches so far this month and still raining. Stand flat on the ground and hold your hand flat above your ankle. That much
