The new era of AI : Innovations and Implications

Over the last few days, I have found myself scrolling through traditional media and web2 platforms a lot more than I'd like to admit. Initially, it was just to get some well needed information because they are always the first to get it, but then as much as I hate to admit it they started to reel me in little by little and then a lot. While that is something I would like to talk about, that was not my initial intention when I started writing this, so I will shift back to my focus.

Upon scrolling through the media I came across various videos about Open AI's new update to ChatGpt. I have to say I was impressed. I am amazed by how far we have come as a species in terms of tech improvements. I mean just a few years ago the touch screen phone was only something that was available to the high class people and now all of a sudden I can barely find a phone that has buttons. And now you're telling me we can now hold reasonable and intelligent discussions with our device, we can now do video calls and have it point out things it can see in the background. We can have it sing for us, solve assignments and many more. If you haven't seen any of the latest videos I highly urge you to go have a look and have a glimpse of what the future would look like.

Whenever I think about these things I always like to think positives and negatives. Let me start from the positives. The very first thing I like about it is how powerful the voice feature is, it could be very helpful for people with disabilities like the blind. It can be a good learning buddy. The previous one was cool to use but it was a bit rigid. When I looked at the demo on this one I realised it is super cool to use, and could actually make learning things fun when you're letting it explain things to you like you're buddies. It could be a companion for when you're bored, you could just pick it up and do a video call. Coupled with all the other things we often used the previous version of ChatGpt to do, it is amazing.

And now the negatives. The very first one that is always on everyone's list is the fact that it will take away a lot of jobs. The more it advances, the more jobs it will have the ability to steal. Then we have privacy concerns. At first, they were trying to say AI doesn't use your data, but believing that is becoming harder and harder every day. Then there's the fake content. The more advanced it becomes the harder it is for me to see a video or audio or even a picture on the internet and believe completely that it is real. Because now anything can be doctored with AI. You have no idea the things my eyes have seen AI do. Lest I forget it still has the tendency to spread fake information.

Sheesh, it is starting to look like I am against AI when in truth I am not. As it becomes more and more advanced there will be more advantages which I enjoy, but there will also be more disadvantages as well. It is all about enjoying the improvement and trying to navigate the negatives. Upgrades are things we must embrace with wide arms.

There is always a good and bad side to every technology out there but when the good outweighs the bad, we don't seem to be bothered.

The major fear a lot of people are having related to AI is it displacing them at work. I believe that learning how these technology advancement can help us should be a priority other than condemning it.

Yeah embracing the change is the best way the go. As jobs are being taken new ones are being created
