Yesterday morning after getting the boys to school I headed into North 40 for animal feed. As I was getting ready to leave the house I stopped at the board for a few minutes and my second throw hit well, the subsequent were not nearly as good.
I had slept for utter dog shit so my morning was a bit off and it took all my tea before I was ready to go to the store.
7 bags of bird feed and a bag of dog food later I was back at the farm and decided to slide the full bags into the barrels rather than emptying them into the barrels. It is far easier for me to dump out one bag than having to haul bucket after bucket to fill the feeder.
Turkey hen wants some ass. The little toms were all puffed up and starting to respond to gobbles and she was cushing looking to get ridden. Doofy damn birds.
LET MY TURKEYS GO!!!!!!
It was time for them to be let loose from their small pen and allowed to free range the farm. They were all SUPER happy and did big flapping runs. The first thing I did was to usher them all towards the coop door and then inside where I had feed in the feeder. They milled about a bit then all exited and spent the day happily wandering the farm.
The sheep needed a new bale, the last of the bales I have. Instead of rolling it the length of the Tardis I opened the pallet fence right next to it, spun it on the pallet, then rolled it into the pen, much easier than other bales.
Soon I had the cage up around it and the sheep were all face in munching away.
I had to move the waters so I cleaned and refilled them all.
The wind was popping early so I waited to go up to the upper garden till mid morning. I found only a corner had blown over and it seems all the potatoes are kicking butt. I have maybe 2 melons that sprouted... thanks to the cold snaps I think. The pumpkin are growing okay and the corn seem to have started well. I have to go reseed all the melons though.
I went rummaging through the old strawberry patch and managed to find a handful more plants that I dug and put into a pot for holding. Looks like I have about 25 to 30 plants to work with.
After picking the boys up from school I got my coveralls on and got to weedeating. I started on the path but soon was in the garden.
The old strawberry section got hacked down and I tried to cut at the roots some as I went. I will dig through the area once more before tilling to make sure no strawberries survived.
I cut along the path way up to the studio then back down to the shed.
Last was to cut the inner yard which has gotten so scraggly and spotty. It really needs a good tilling, leveling, and seeding. I'll need to install sprinklers if I do that though.
Got the fire going in the pit for the evening and kept it going while I cleaned under the carport to make room for the Blackstone.
The turkeys are all super chill and talkative. They spent most of their day near the coop.
The wall of my studio is now cleared of my old glass table. This is where the Blackstone will go, perpendicular to the wall so it won't face the wall.
The table got moved to the outside but is still useful. The hard part will be keeping it cleared of stuff so it can be used as a table regularly, not just a shelf.
Got the burgers grilled for dinner while the NHL playoff games were playing.
It was lineup at the feed trough time. They all were getting in their evening gorging.
Weather showed chance of freezing temps this morning which it barely touched but I still covered the few potato rows in the garden to keep them from getting whacked. Everything else is a cool crop and can handle the temps.
Great hockey this year in the playoffs with some really hard hitting games.
With being rather tired as I hit the wall about 8pm I only made it less than an hour soaking before I was inside and in bed. That is after herding the turkeys into the coop for their first night with the rest of the flock.
Today will be busy. Mid morning we head north to pickup our side of beef at Lone Crow, then will stop at the ice cream parlor before heading home and figuring out where we will fit the beef. Mid afternoon we have our sitter coming over to hang with the boys for a couple hours while @stryeyz and I go out for a drive to hopefully see my new flying area then to eat. I have work around the farm that has to get done and dink with the damn coop door opener again.

Do you give the Turkeys only their feeds or you give them normal food at times?
They get scraps whenever I toss them out and they will get the grain tomorrow once I dump it out in the pen.
